Cuppa and a Natter, visiting volunteer, New Romney

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

Fancy a day out in New Romney. Browsing the shops and stop for a cuppa and a slice of cake?

Help make a difference to someone's life?

If you can spare some time just 6 times a year, you could do just that!

We support a terrific woman who would like a visitor that she can have a good chat and a cuppa with. Visits can take place in the community or her home. She is friendly and welcoming and makes for great company. She is in her 50's and lives in New Romney and walking distance from the town centre .

She is pretty open-minded about what you might do on visits but her interests include the following:

  • Chatting and going to a local cafĂ©
  • Visiting the shops
  • Chat about films, TV and music
  • Having her nails painted
  • Needlework and knitting

But this is by no means an exhaustive list, she is up for anything!

A typical Mencap volunteer is:

  • Kind
  • Patient
  • Engaging
  • Up for a challenge
  • Passionate about supporting people with a learning disability.

Does this describe you? If so, please get in touch.

The Mencap Visiting Service was founded in 1963. It meant that the parents of a person with a learning disability could know that someone would look in on them when they were no longer around. In this volunteer role, you will not only be providing a valuable social visit to this woman, but also honouring the wishes of her parents.

About Mencap

We offer a lifelong befriending service for people with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of individual people with a learning disability.

Our visitors visit six times a year to create a one-to-one connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing.

In many cases, our visitor is the only person in someone's life who isn't paid to be there for them.
