About the role

In line with Matalan's strategy of putting our customers at the heart of everything we do, the Brand Insight Manager will help to drive a customer-centric culture through delivering the voice of customer into business decision-making. This role is responsible for the delivery of impactful and highly actionable brand and customer insight.

What you will do:

  • Deliver brand and customer insight that informs business and category strategies.
  • Ensure that insights are communicated in a clear and compelling way through compelling storytelling and excellent visual communications
  • Be 'hands on' with the data; Working with stakeholders to understand the key business question, Working with agency partners to understand what is possible and the optimum research design for each project
  • End-to-end delivery of customer research projects, taking responsibility for every step in the process from writing the research brief through to questionnaire design through to analysis and debrief. Collaborating with other insight roles where the insight need combines market with customer, CX and/or brand.
  • Manage the reporting cadence of our brand tracking programme, working collaboratively with the brand team, as well as our media and creative agency partners
  • Manage creative development and campaign evaluation insight
  • Support the Research Executive in delivering insight around consumer sentiment
  • Working closely with the Customer Experience Manager, support the retail operations team with ad hoc customer insight requirements around store initiatives (such as store of the future)
  • Set up and ongoing management of customer and colleague panels
  • Bring customer insight to life in innovative ways that help keep the customer top of mind

About You

  • Passion for understanding customers and retailing, with an ability to dissect data to uncover actionable insights
  • Consultative approach to engaging with internal customers across all levels to address business challenges
  • Proficiency in analyzing large data sets to drive informed business discussions
  • Ideally skilled in statistical tools such as SPSS, DisplayR, Q Market Research, or similar
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to bring the customer experience to life through impactful storytelling and compelling visual communications, tailored to different audience levels
  • Established credibility and trust across stakeholder audiences, including peers, agency partners, and senior leaders
  • Confident in delivering insight debriefs to large and senior-level audiences
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in a fast-paced, deliverables-driven environment, demonstrating the ability to manage competing demands and adapt to emergent stakeholder needs
  • Experience in research agency settings would be advantageous
  • Desirable qualifications in psychology, marketing, or business
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and exploration of new tools, methods, and perspectives
