Core Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Identify cover requirements and arrange internal and external cover for planned/unplanned teacher absence and other special events where there is a need
  • Responsibility for recording staff absence on SIMS, leave of absence request procedure, return to work meetings and any other appropriate HR and administrative tasks as required
  • Liaise with teaching staff to ensure that work is set for lessons to be covered and available for Cover Supervisors
  • Supervising work set in accordance with Academy policy
  • Manage external cover by providing timetables, registers, work set by teaching staff and any other relevant information
  • Ensure Cover Supervisors have a clear understanding of their role within the classroom
  • Provide a first line of behaviour management training and ongoing support for Cover Supervisors
  • Manage the cover supervision budget by ensuring an appropriate balance of cover supervision. Maintain adequate records of provision and salary claims
  • Liaise with Line Manager to recruit and maintain a pool of Cover Supervisors to meet cover requirements
  • To accompany Academy visits
  • Attend morning briefings, planning meetings and extra-curricular meetings
  • Support and maintain Academy resources and systems
  • Support establishment and maintenance of positive relations with parents/carers, support agencies and students
  • To undertake cover/classroom support duties as directed by the Headteacher
  • To instruct students about the work left by Subject Teacher
  • To provide students with necessary resources for their learning
  • To register and record student attendance in lessons
  • To answer student queries regarding the instructions left by the Subject Teacher
  • To ensure classrooms are left tidy and ready for the next lesson after dismissing the class
  • To ensure classes enter and leave classroom in an orderly fashion
  • To liaise with Subject Leader/Subject Teachers/Area Leaders to answer any queries about work set by the Subject Teacher when appropriate and without leaving students unsupervised
  • When appropriate report students responsible for poor behaviour to the Subject Teacher, Subject Leader or Deputy Area Leader
  • Collect, distribute and explain to students, as instructed, the class work and return completed work to designated place
  • Ensure a punctual and orderly beginning and ending to classes and to maintain an orderly working atmosphere in the classroom
  • Assist, when required, with lunchtime/breaktime supervision
  • Carry out general teaching assistant duties and curriculum support when not engaged in supervising classes
  • Co-operate with all other departments in the provision of an effective and efficient non-teaching support service to the Academy
  • Attend to the personal and social needs of students
  • Support programmes for individual students or groups of students
  • Assist in preparation of resources before lessons
  • Assist in the presentation of work and display areas
  • Be available for invigilation duties as and when required by the Academy
  • To promote the Academy's Christian ethos and Environmental specialism Ensure students' safety at all times, in and out of the classroom
  • Enable students to be included in all aspects of Academy life
  • Support the educational aims and objectives of the Academy
  • Be aware of, and adhere to, the Academy's policies and procedures

Academy Ethos

  • Implement the Academy Improvement Plan to meet the objectives set out in the Funding Agreement.
  • Help to meet strategic targets for the Academy set by the Governing Body.
  • Support and facilitate access to the curriculum for all learners to meet the objectives in the Academy Improvement Plan and targets set by the Secretary of State and Governing Body
  • Enable the Academy to be rooted at the heart of the community.
  • Develop links as appropriate with partners, schools, FE and HE establishments, sponsors and the Connexions service, thereby ensuring greater opportunities for the young people in the Academy particularly in the areas of work experience and study support.

Communication and Liaison

  • Communicate effectively with the parents of students as appropriate.
  • Where appropriate, communicate and co-operate with persons or bodies outside the Academy.
  • Follow agreed policies for communications in the Academy.

Qualifications

5 GCSEs including Maths and English (grade 4-9) or equivalent
