Location - London with hybrid working in line with departmental requirements

Who are we?

Our rapidly growing Covenant & Financial Analysis consulting team at LCP is highly respected in the pensions industry and beyond. Our core work involves advising stakeholders on the employer covenant of sponsors to UK defined benefit pensions schemes, in relation to both periodic risk assessments and in the context of fast-moving corporate transactions. More recently we have started to provide non-pensions financial consulting services to some of LCP's exciting new and diversified business streams and now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Covenant Consultant/Senior Consultant to join them in our London office and continue our journey!

What does the role involve?

Providing financial advice to a portfolio of clients which will include.

  • Leading the preparation of financial analysis and written advice regarding:
    • Covenant assessments to support actuarial valuations
    • Monitoring assignments
    • Transactional activity including M&A deals, refinancing's, restructuring and other events that impact on sponsor strength
    • Longer term journey planning
    • Insurer diligence transactions
    • Financial analysis assignments in conjunction with our colleagues at LCP Delta regarding the energy transition and/or other areas of LCP as required
  • Agreeing scopes of work and client delivery timelines with clients
  • Discussing financial data with finance teams
  • Liaising with colleagues at LCP who provide other services to existing clients as appropriate
  • Attending meetings as appropriate

Marketing LCP's covenant services, including:

  • Assisting on the tendering process for new advisory appointments, both to existing LCP clients, and to clients where there is no existing advisory relationship with LCP
  • Taking ownership of agreed areas of our business development strategy
  • Engaging with colleagues to build team's brand within the firm, with the aim of maximising internal referrals
  • Publicising the team with external stakeholders, including presenting at roundtables, attending networking events, preparing marketing materials etc.

What experience, skills qualities are we looking for?

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (100% first time passes preferred) with demonstrable post qualified experience
  • Experience working in the pensions industry and, specifically within employer covenant areas (other backgrounds will be relevant if you do not have this experience, e.g. restructuring, corporate finance)
  • Understanding of relevant pensions regulation and legislation
  • Ability to analyse statutory and management accounts, forecasts, and other financial information
  • Excellent research skills, including in relation to the prospects for individual businesses and overall sectors
  • A demonstrable track record of delivering written advice to clients and an ability to create intuitive conclusions from relevant financial information
  • Clear, accurate and concise communication skills, both written and spoken and being comfortable in communicating to clients and management teams
  • Proactive in seeking guidance when planning or prioritising complex or conflicting tasks
  • Ability to obtain the confidence of Partners in the team by taking responsibility to ensure work is done to a high standard, within budget and within agree deadlines
  • Comfortable with working under pressure
  • A collaborative approach to work within a team structure
  • Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills, with the ability to record, store and present information in a systematic way
  • Excellent commercial awareness
  • Delegation of work to, and effective management of less experienced team members to ensure that work is delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
  • A commitment to delivering high quality work to clients and developing your career at LCP
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office applications
