Overall Purpose

A newly established role within Get Living's Tax Team, created to enhance the robustness, accuracy, and timeliness of the Group's tax compliance and reporting obligations throughout the financial year. This is a strategically important and wide-ranging role, offering considerable scope for continued professional development and progression.

Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Tax, this position is responsible for managing corporation tax compliance across both the REIT and non-REIT structures, including the end-to-end delivery of tax returns and the preparation of tax provisions for statutory accounts.

The remit of the role spans all aspects of corporation tax, including the identification and management of tax risks and opportunities, as well as contributing to the Group's broader Tax Risk and Governance framework. The role also involves direct interaction with HMRC and provides tax support on strategic initiatives, such as corporate transactions and refinancing activities.

This position also requires effective business partnering across a range of internal stakeholders, in addition to engagement with external advisers and tax authorities.

Key Relationships

Internal: Regular interaction with Finance Team, Real Estate and Legal teams, amongst others.

External: External advisers, HMRC, Investors, third party estate management companies.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Manage the end-to-end corporation tax compliance process for the Get Living REIT and non-REIT groups with support from third party advisers. Includes detailed tax analyses and reviewing returns, Balance of Business and Interest Cover Ratio tests, Corporate Interest Restriction, Losses, Group Relief and Claims and Elections.
  • Prepare year end tax provisions for Group and sole entity accounts and support annual audit and iXBRL tagging process.
  • Prepare budget tax forecasts, including assessment of PIDs taking into account future transactions or business change.
  • Provide corporation tax advisory support on projects and corporate transactions to ensure corporation tax risks are managed. This will include working across complex corporate and leasing structures.
  • Manage Capital Allowance reviews with external advisers to ensure claims are optimised.
  • Support transfer pricing reviews of inter-company arrangements, including management fees and funding.
  • Support Head of Tax with Tax Risk and Governance workstreams, including annual Tax Strategy, SAO, CCO and HMRC Business Risk Reviews and dealing with HMRC enquiries.
  • Responsible for management of tax administration with HMRC, external advisers and internally.
  • Keep abreast of relevant changes to legislation and support training to embed relevant knowledge across the business.
  • Scope to be involved with other taxes (e.g. Employment and other Indirect Taxes).

Qualifications & Experience

  • CTA or equivalent qualification.
  • CT experience in the Real Estate sector and REITs either from practice or industry is an advantage.
  • Excellent CT technical knowledge acquired through experience and training.
  • Good working knowledge of using legislation, HMRC guidance and other external references.
  • Experience of working directly with advisers and HMRC.
  • Sound accounting knowledge and experience of using ERP systems (Yardi or other).
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Experience of Tax Risk and Governance, including reviews of processes and controls.
  • Experience of other taxes is helpful.
