Summary and purpose of position:

Job Title: Operations Manager
Grade: M2
Reporting To: Contract Manager
Sector: E-Fulfilment
Location: Hemel Hempstead
Days of working/ shifts: Mon - Fri (or as required by operation)

Salary: TBC
£50 to £53k

This Operations Manager is accountable to ensure effective running of the Hemel Hempstead Warehouse and the southern out bases. The role will assume responsibility for the performance of the site including Health & Safety, achieving contractual KPI's and managing a team to ensure they deliver excellent service and continuous improvement.

Duties and responsibilities

• Ensure that a best-in-class HSE performance is achieved within the site and that a culture of safety in everything we do is embedded.

• Deliver the operation consistently exceeding the customer's requirements both in terms of service to customers, KPI's and operational standards.

• Provide leadership, motivation, and career development to the contract team, ensuring they achieve operational excellence on a day-to-day basis.

• Deliver a culture of efficiency and continuous improvement by utilizing the most appropriate methodology on a consistent basis

• Accountable for driving high levels of employee engagement.

• Ensure the best talent is in place to deliver business objectives and deliver a robust succession plan for current and future key roles.

• Operate in an Open and Closed book environment where decisions and performance are under scrutiny at regular formal customer reviews.

• Build a useful network of both internal and external contacts to support contract growth and ensure exposure to best practice.

• Act as the operational lead for Clients, support the client with operational issues and carry out Period reviews with clients.

• Ensure direct reports support their clients and period reviews are carried out alongside action plans to improve client KPIs.

Experience, skills and attributes:

  • Relevant, well-rounded experience in a warehouse environment at a management level and be able to clearly demonstrate previous achievements.
  • Excellent team building, leadership, and motivational skills.
  • Customer focus with well-developed negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Able to demonstrate the commitment, enthusiasm, and flexibility to be able to respond to seasonal customer demand and be able to see the customer's business from their perspective.
  • Have interpersonal skills to be able to establish effective communication channels with employees, ensuring they are well informed regarding both our customers and Wincanton.
  • Energy, determination and commitment to operate in an environment where regular customer contact and scrutiny is the norm and the highest level of customer experience is non-negotiable.
  • Proven track record in delivering innovative performance improvements and operational excellence.
  • Has worked within Continuous Improvement programs and can demonstrate an appreciation of key methodologies and approaches.
  • Understands how to use IT / technology to drive performance.
  • Able to manage Equality and Diversity issues and create a culture of respect and "Dignity at Work" for all.
  • Understand key drivers to achieve high levels of employee engagement and uses these to deliver high performance.

  • Highly numerate and excellent written skills.
