As ICB Data Management Control Manager, you will be responsible for oversight and governance of the ICB control environment including: delivery of an enterprise-wide framework to manage control-related processes; development and management of the end-to-end process for identification, remediation and completion of control issues, including Control & Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE); management of protocols, governance and tracking related to supervisory and regulator engagement, development and maintenance of operational risk policies and monitoring of effectiveness of control implementation. You will assume responsibility for control management across four pillars; Risk Identification & Assessment, Control Design & Evaluation, Issues & Control Deficiencies, and Control Governance & Reporting. This role will require interaction and collaboration with the ICB Data Management Office to identify risks relative to the Business as well as perform ongoing monitoring of the Operational Risk and Control environment across the ICB. You will be responsible for the hands on delivery and implementation of Firm wide Programs within the International Consumer Business Globally and Chief Strategy & Growth Office initiatives. You will be part of an agile, future focused, and collaborative team. On any day of the week, you might assess the operational strengths and vulnerabilities involved in a recent acquisition, design enhancements to our business platform to support new and existing products, develop an advanced technology solution built with machine learning to drive process improvement, or proactively identify and respond to high profile issues or emerging risks of utmost importance to C-suite level executives.

Job responsibilities:

  • Assess operational risks for the ICB Data Management Office across - Data Privacy, Data Governance, Data Use Case, Data Quality, Data Protection, Data Retention and Destruction, Data Storage, Data Architecture, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Insights, Individual Rights and Model Governance. Translate assessment into business impact, informing the broader Control Management organization, where appropriate, on how to disposition. You'll support the business through insightful analysis of their risk practices all data dimensions.
  • Drive the strategic controls environment transformation of Data Management business processes and help strengthen the control practices.
  • Operational Risk Management: Partnering effectively with colleagues across the firm, business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, regulators, and technology control functions to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk practices and control programs, including control committees, risk mitigation, key risk indicators, control design, and performance evaluations. Assess the effectiveness of governance relative to programs, business processes, the direction the firm is taking . Management of actions and remediation of issues, for example, working with business leads on the close out of Audit issues.
  • Audits & Regulatory Engagements: Lead global regulatory interactions/relationships/exams with OCC, FED, PRA, FCA, BaFIN, ECB etc and subsequent Matter Requiring Actions (MRA) for International Consumer Bank Globally including but not limited to data Governance. Lead / Coordinate end-to-end audit exams, compliance and regulatory exams in partnership with business leads. Review regulatory change, industry patterns, external events, incumbent policies & standards, etc. to proactively identify existing and emerging operational risks and issues.
  • Manage projects in response to firmwide, regulatory and industry changes, to uplift the current ICB Data Management control environment.
  • Policy and Standards compliance: Ensuring operational practices are in compliance with relevant risk standards, policies, and regulations to maintain an effective control environment. Managing a portfolio of key metrics to inform on the health of the operational risk and control environment.
  • Controls Culture Carrier:
    • Provide operational risk guidance and analysis for new business/products/initiatives to business and to the controls team.
    • Identify, assess, advise, and drive strategic solutions to increase efficiency and create a more resilient operating environment.
    • Ensure effectiveness of key controls and lead communications with regulatory and audit bodies, both internally and externally
    • Oversee governance of business operational risks, escalating issues appropriately to line of business and Firmwide operating committees. Collaborate with senior business clients and partners across functional areas (e.g., Legal, Finance, Compliance, Risk) and geographies

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong Audit, internal control or operational risk experience.
  • Experience and knowledge of data risk management, data privacy, IT, cyber security
  • Financial services experience, ideally within corporate and investment banking with team management experience.
  • Previous experience in strategic and tactical initiatives: Ability to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience across conducting Risk and Control Self-Assessment, Review and Management of Operational Risk Issues, experience with new product launches and/or product change.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, project management and analytical skills.
  • Ability to directly address conflicts and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and technical (e.g., PowerPoint). Ability to present concise, direct and timely communications to executives, management and key partners; strong presentation skills is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience across conducting Risk and Control Self-Assessment, Review and Management of Operational Risk Issues, experience with new product launches and/or product change.
  • Superior communication skills, including active listening and the ability to capture and deliver key takeaways from engagements in writing
  • Ability to perform under pressure and to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Experience working and efficiently delivering in an information technology area / environment is a plus (e.g. IT Auditing, Programming Controls, Data Management and Governance etc) with strong understanding of Data and Analytics.
  • Ability to work within a digital first environment, including comfortable with new technologies and frameworks, agile methodologies, reviewing data, analytics and technology
  • Management-level experience at a large financial institution, regulator, consulting firm and/or retail banking. Experience of setting up a new retail/ digital bank a big plus
  • Knowledge of Agile with hands on experience using tools such as JIRA and Confluence
