About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager to join our UKCS Construction teams, working on various high profile infrastructure projects in Scotland.

In this role successful candidates will get the opportunity to play a key role in the planning and construction of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) framework, targeted at unlocking the government's 2030 50GW offshore wind target.

As Contracts Manager you will influence, create and articulate strategy through to implementation, holds overall accountability for the successful delivery of the project/portfolio including initiation, planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and handover/closeout.

What you'll be doing

• Lead risk/opportunity reviews and recommend/implement/approve/reject changes

• Escalate any issues that cannot be resolved at delegated level of authority

• Apply change, risk and resource management principles

• Ensure procurement plans are available in line with the overall project plans, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines

• Ensure robust procurement processes are undertaken aligned to business and customer requirements

• Establish and maximise a network of key suppliers for present and future opportunities

• Ensure performance of suppliers/supply chain is monitored, establish and maintain feedback loops and continuous improvement

• Work with the customer to understand their expectations in relation to quality and ensure that these are met within the project

• Accountable for KPI's in line with project objectives and monitor performance

• Ensure assurance activities (audits) are undertaken and take appropriate action on findings

• Champion ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people

• Maximise the use of planning & project controls tools to establish realistic baselines throughout the team

• Track project performance against baselines, advocating Short Interval Control processes to identify deviations early and hold projects accountable

• Ownership of budget, cost control and cost recovery, setting project/portfolio targets accordingly

• Ensure that expenditure is in line with the budget and that resources are utilised efficiently

Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others

• Incorporate and balance both operational and commercial constraints into decision making

• Lead robust reporting routines including escalation as required

• Advocate consistency and reliability of digital data to support successful project delivery - data driven decisions

• Awareness of Digital Group Minimum Standards and operate with appropriate level of digital tools

• Seek coaching so that the team has the correct level of training

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Effective leadership skills with a desire to track records of achievement
  • Strong understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Business and customer awareness
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams. Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
  • Ability to create and implement strategy
  • Focus on commercial management of contracts and budgets
  • Good knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics
  • Be flexible and agile to change as the role develops
  • Understand the need to present data/reports etc. in a manner that is simple and easy/effective for our people to interpret and utilise
  • Ability to see the business vision and inspire this shared vision amongst the team

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Attend and contribute toward industry events
  • Is a member of a professional management body i.e. APM
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving licence

The role holder is likely to have one or more of the following:

  • Formal qualification (BSc/MSc) in management/construction or experience equivalent
  • APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ

CSCS and SMSTS or Equivalent
