Contract Manager - Rail Fencing

Directly reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the role of Contract Manager is a pivotal one. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of fencing projects, from tendering and planning to development and execution, across rail, road, and water sectors.

Your expertise and leadership will be instrumental in fostering collaboration among internal teams, external stakeholders, and supplier partners, ensuring the timely and budget-conscious delivery of projects while upholding quality and safety standards.

Beyond fencing, you may also be involved in civils work, arboriculture, landscape, and ecology projects. You will be focused predominantly on the Rail sector with some Highways work as well.

The role covers an area from Manchester to Carlisle and predominantly covers LNW North, LNE North and Scotland, with occasional travel to cover projects nationwide.

Key Responsibilities will be to;

  • Collaborate with Business Development, Site Managers, and Supervisors to conduct site surveys and assess work scope.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, setting project scope, objectives, and deliverables in partnership with clients.
  • Effectively manage project budgets, resource allocation, and expenses to maintain optimal financial performance.
  • Ensure projects are aligned with contract and commercial requirements.
  • Work alongside commercial teams to ensure accurate and punctual application submissions.
  • Be accountable for achieving a minimum gross profit in line with the agreed budget.
  • Coordinate efforts with engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure streamlined project execution.
  • Foster strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify potential issues, formulate contingency plans, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Monitor project advancement and performance, providing regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Drive innovation by pinpointing opportunities for process enhancement and the adoption of best practices.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and industry regulations throughout all project phases.
  • Draft and review safety-critical documentation (WPP, TBS, etc.).
  • Serve as the Responsible Manager in accordance with 019 Standard.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Demonstrated successful management and delivery of transportation or rail infrastructure projects.
  • Profound familiarity with project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Outstanding leadership capabilities, motivating and inspiring cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in risk management, contract negotiation, and procurement processes.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Competency in Word, Excel, SharePoint, and other digital systems.
  • Prior experience in the role of Responsible Manager.
  • Advantageous to have prior experience as a CRE (Contractor Responsible Engineer).
