An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic midwife to lead our established case loading team Blossom & Bloom; that offers continuity of care to women and their families planning to birth in the community setting. Whilst predominantly low risk care will be provided, clients that wish to birth outside of guidance will be supported by the team within a multi-disciplinary approach.

You will also be involved in the next roll out of our CoC plan and liaise with both the Community Matrons and the other CoC leads in the development of 3 new teams next year. Your role will include management duties of one additional team once they have been established.

The role includes cross site working across Hampshire Hospitals. Our Trust provides maternity services across Hampshire in the community and at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Basingstoke, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester and Hampshire Hospitals Maternity Centre, Andover. The base for this role will be Andover Birth Centre however, travelling will be required to fulfil the role..

Main duties of the job

You will need to have excellent leadership skills to support the team to deliver high quality care and open to embracing positive change and transformation in order to meet the needs of the women in the local population. You will support women choosing to birth at home or in our free-standing birth centre embracing our plans to improve our provision of continuity of carer.

You should be an enthusiastic, confident clinical practitioner with experience in various midwifery settings, ideally within the community but not essential. Your ability to influence others will be integral to this role.

We have two obstetric units and a free standing birth centre and we are committed to constantly improving our service. Our award winning Labour Line was the first midwifery labour triage service based within an ambulance service. We are part of the SHIP collaborative (Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth) and our SHIP LMS is a Pioneer for Choice and Continuity.

Person specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered Midwife with 1st level degree or equivalent further education course of study. Evidence of CPD
  • Evidence of IT training or practice to demonstrate data recording and interpretation on a relevant hospital system

Desirable criteria

  • NIPE trained.
  • Educated to Master's level or 1st line leadership course

Experience

Essential criteria

  • At least 3 years' experience in an NHS healthcare setting
  • Experience of undertaking audits and research experience • Proven experience of participating in service improvement and change management
  • Proven management and leadership experience

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience leading a team within the community
  • Experience with multi-lingual backgrounds
  • Previous experience of managing patient flow/site management

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Mentorship module or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement methods and techniques.
  • Valid driving licence and ability to drive using own transport.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be part of an on call model of care

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Able to work with staff at all levels across the Trust
  • Self-confident, assertive and proactive• Self-motivated and committed with excellent interpersonal skills,
