A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Construction Project Manager to join The Major Projects Team at Bristol City Council.
Based within Homes & Landlord Services, you will play a lead role in the delivery of a 10 year cyclical maintenance and major refurbishment programme of the Council's high rise blocks of flats.
What will I be doing?
Reporting to the Major Projects Manager, you will oversee the programme of works to refurbish and improve our high rise blocks, engaging with residents and the local estates team, ensuring that the work meets new fire and building safety regulations.
The 10 year programme typically involves around 8-12 blocks per year, often spanning across several years, and an annual programme value of between £18 to £20m. Each project can range from £1M to £16m in value; and take from 12 months to 4 years plus to complete. Use of programme management tools to manage risk, communications and budget monitoring will be essential element of this role.
You will manage a team of professional surveyors, and ensure all works are carried out to a high quality and achieve value for money and ensure a positive experience for all residents.
You will also engage with a framework of contractors, architects, structural engineers / consultants and stakeholders. You will own, develop, plan, monitor and control all aspects of the project end to end, seeking best practice, ideas and innovation and ensuring they are applied.
This role oversees external refurbishment to Bristol's high rise social housing blocks. Knowledge and experience of such works is essential. This is not a role for those with a civil engineering background.
What do I need to have?
With a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant construction discipline or equivalent knowledge and skill demonstrated from significant and relevant experience in a surveying or similar construction related environment, you will possess excellent communication skills and have a real commitment to involving all stakeholders in the delivery of projects.
You will also have
- experience in managing major construction or development projects & contracts with a record of meeting quality, time and budgetary targets
- Experience of Contract Management and contracts used in the construction industry - i.e JCT and NEC
- Experience of Project Delivery and Programming
- Experience and knowledge of the whole process of development, from concept through planning, specification and delivery of a major project
- Ability to lead a team of professional technical staff and external consultants
