What we're looking for in a nutshell:

We are keen to see applications from candidates with proven experience in a similar role who hold a NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or an equivalent Level 3 Health & Safety qualification), with expertise in CDM regulations and proven experience managing health & safety on construction projects. Attention to detail, data accuracy, and compliance will be essential, alongside technical and behavioural competency skills. While membership in a professional health and safety organisation such as IOSH is desirable, what truly sets you apart is your ability to stay highly organised, adapt to changing needs, and proactively solve problems. We are looking for someone who challenges the status quo, continuously seeks to improve processes and identifies smarter, more efficient ways of working.

Job purpose:

The Health & Safety Manager ensures health and safety compliance across construction projects by providing guidance, conducting site inspections, addressing non-conformances, and managing permits. It involves coordinating with stakeholders, reviewing risk assessments, investigating incidents, and supporting project setups. The role also drives safety initiatives, delivers training, and promotes continuous improvement of safety standards.

What you'll be doing:

Core responsibilities:

  • Advising on construction health and safety matters and supporting compliance with regulations (eg CDM 2015 and CAR 2012) and internal procedures
  • Supporting with reviewing CPPs, the collation of PCIs and ensuring construction risk management protocols are in place
  • Auditing internal procedures in relation to construction activities and carrying out construction site inspections to maintain safety standards
  • Incident management, including reporting and investigation of accidents alongside our contractors
  • Driving construction health and safety initiatives across the organisation
  • Work closely with our Building & Consultancy colleagues to ensure that where there is crossover between operational areas and construction areas, that this is managed seamlessly
  • Works collaboratively with the wider Health, Safety & Risk Team
  • Support our external relationships with Principal Designers and support our internal Principal Designer responsibilities as and when required

  • Contributing to the Health, Safety, and Risk Strategy and translating it into practice

  • Encouraging continuous improvement and challenging the status quo
  • Seeking out opportunities to improve health and safety performance

Leadership and communication:

  • Build relationships and influence internal and external stakeholders at various levels
  • Communicate effectively to guide and coach others

Digital and data-focused approach:

  • Supporting the use of digital compliance tools (e.g., Riskwise, Viewpoint, Fieldview) to monitor and improve safety performance
  • Using data to identify trends and suggest improved working practices

Progressive and proactive approach:

  • Actively look for opportunities for improvement within the organisation, whether this is through safety initiatives, challenging the status quo or applying lessons learned into everyday practice
  • Use external sources of information to translate them into working practices for the organisation
