About us
Camden Council is a borough with a rich history of pushing boundaries, fostering diversity, and championing innovation. With over 5,600 listed buildings and 40 conservation areas, Camden is a hub of heritage, but also forward-thinking design. Join us to lead conservation efforts while driving a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
The role
In this role you will lead a team of conservation professionals to balance the preservation of Camden's historic environment with the delivery of sustainable and innovative architectural designs. This position involves managing strategic heritage projects, including updating conservation area statements, managing the local list, addressing heritage at risk, and supporting the integration of modern planning solutions.
You will provide expert conservation advice, ensuring compliance with heritage legislation while collaborating with internal teams and external partners like Historic England. As a leader, you will mentor and empower your team to deliver exceptional results, aligning conservation efforts with Camden's broader objectives, including tackling climate change and fostering inclusive growth.
About you
We are looking for a highly experienced conservation and design professional with a proven ability to lead and inspire a team. Your expertise in heritage legislation, urban design, and strategic project delivery will be essential in achieving Camden's vision. You will bring strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills, along with a commitment to excellence and innovation in conservation.
A degree in building conservation or a related field is required, alongside eligibility for the IHBC or similar professional accreditation. Substantial experience in managing complex conservation projects and a deep understanding of the planning system will position you as a key advisor within the Council.
