Location Birmingham: Base salary: c. £40,750 - £50,950 pa, depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As a Configuration Manager at HS2 your will be responsible delivering and monitoring effective Configuration management practices to meet project objectives (outputs, timescale and cost). Responsibilities include working collaboratively within an integrated customer and supplier team to jointly deliver the route configuration of infrastructure and systems designed and built to deliver the service ensuring that processes utilised are beneficial and support the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery team.

The role:

  • Assure configuration and data management compliance to infrastructure assets and rail systems hardware, software, documents, test equipment, tooling, specifications, product requirements, program requirements, proposals, and company defined standard operating procedures;
  • Author and deliver Configuration Management Plans in accordance with programme requirements;
  • Ensure that configuration managers embedded in delivery have the necessary skills and understanding to deliver configuration management objectives. Ensure that competence levels for configuration management are set out and that HS2 has appropriate competence to undertake the planned configuration management work;
  • Generate Configuration Audit Plans, Reports, and Exec Summaries based upon contractual deliverables requirements;
  • Conduct Physical and Functional Configuration Audits to establish product baselines; Page 3 of 7
  • Execute all associated activities regarding configuration identification, planning and management, status accounting, configuration control, verification and audit;
  • Interpret and ensure compliance to all relevant Configuration Management and Technical Data contractual, export, and security requirements for suitable adherence;
  • Govern the Engineering Change Management Process for all product configuration items, ensuring proper configuration control across the programme Areas;
  • Generate Engineering Change Proposal's (ECP), assessing, analysing and documenting all impacts of the proposed change as required;
  • Plan, schedule and execute the Configuration Control Board (CCB) for ECP and cross-functional decisions;
  • Maintain and improve the procedures set out for configuration management;
  • Develop and implement the use of best practice and innovative engineering techniques, technologies and processes, driving consistency and helping to identify opportunities for efficiencies across Phase 1 and Phase 2 delivery teams;
  • You will be expected to actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work, and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

Skills:

  • Able to provide specialist technical support and leadership on discipline[1]specific scientific, technical and engineering principles to project development / delivery teams, but knowing when to seek further guidance from other Subject Matter Expert or others
  • .Capable of being a Standard Owner, working under the guidance of the Standard Discipline Owner.
  • Meets minimum CPD requirement for professional institution every year.
  • Able to provide specialist technical, commercial management and leadership skills to support project development / delivery teams.
  • Ability to communicate most discipline-specific technical ideas to colleagues, based largely on examples of application.
  • Ability to apply many principles relating to standards, safety and the environment and able to articulate the rest.
  • Applies principles and methods that ensure effective information management, modelling and data security; understands the approaches and Page 4 of 7 consequences to data creation, transformation and visualisation and knowing when to seek guidance from other Subject Matter Expert or others.
  • Ability to define discipline specific criteria

Knowledge

  • Applicable UK construction regulations including CDM requirements
  • Understanding of the Regulatory/Legislative Framework relevant to HS2
  • Commercial awareness including understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets and the need to deliver an integrated solution that meets all functional requirements.
  • Understanding of many other disciplines
  • Chartered Engineer/Membership of an appropriate professional institution or working towards with the equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Experience in managing standards, engineering and safety activity on any engineering projects/ programmes
  • Experience of managing competing project and engineering demands, with cost and schedule implications on any engineering projects/ programmes
