THE ROLE

Ashbury are dedicated to the provision of regulatory, legal advice and checks that protect our customers' reputations and keep brands and end consumers safe. We are partner of choice and market leader in our field. In provision of our services, we must be able to demonstrate due diligence. In food safety, due diligence refers to being able to prove that your business has taken reasonable steps to prevent food safety breaches. In this role you will be taking a lead role in supporting Ashbury in demonstrating due diligence.

The role is to ensure Ashbury adheres to all applicable food safety regulations, quality standards and compliance requirements. The role is critical in mitigating risks and demonstrating due diligence. On a day-to-day basis you will report into a Technical Controller.

You will ensure the business quality plans are written, reviewed and maintained and quality checks are carried out to the required frequency. You will lead on the development of the AST competency framework, identifying key skills required for each role in the department.

When individuals are not adequately equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours, they encounter challenges in helping their organisation to perform effectively. Therefore, you will review trends, identify learning and development needs and ensure any corrective actions are completed in a timely manner. Communication is key and you will be required to develop and share information on key metrics

You will be responsible for

  • Development and maintenance of the Ashbury Quality Management plan, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Effective management of the quality plan, ensuring quality checks are carried out as per the policy.
  • Maintaining accurate and up to date documentation of quality management and compliance activities.
  • Compilation of data to conduct a formal monthly review of all quality metrics. Identifying good and poor performance.
  • Over peak periods, there may be an uplift in checks required due to the increased number of advisors. Supporting with completion of these checks would be part of this role.
  • NCR management, ensuring full root cause analysis and consistency in responses, reducing investigation time.
  • Using quality metrics and data to generate and manage training plans.
  • Supporting and delivering AST training, through training sessions, workshops or presentations to promote compliance awareness and best practice.
  • Writing monthly knowledge quizzes for AST.
  • Management of skills matrix and competency framework and monitoring performance against this
  • Maintaining and growing technical expertise, relevant to the client or subject matter are.

Requirements

Skillset / Experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree level educational qualifications in food or regulatory subject with sound technical knowledge, or able to demonstrate excellent relevant experience.
  • In-depth regulatory and/or technical knowledge, including codes of practice, policies and guidance.
  • Good understanding of legal requirements, challenges and consumer trends relating to product information.
  • Maintain an awareness of relevant changes in the regulatory environment due to new legislation, case law, guidance.
  • Confident to share knowledge and experience with customers and internal colleagues.
  • Knowledge of a variety of categories of work, including but not limited to, non-food, pet food, baby food, supplements, beers, wines & spirits, and food safety.

Experience

Essential

  • Practical experience of using specification or artwork packages
  • Minimum 5 years of experience of working in a technical/regulatory role, or in a related field.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Demonstrable experience of independent working, managing your own workload and time management
  • Demonstrable experience of workload planning
  • Demonstrable risk-based decision making
  • Confident to apply requirements to product information and communicating decisions to clients.
  • Welcomes personal development, has undertaken a management development programme or keen to participate in one.

Desirable

  • Prior experience of managing a quality system is preferred.
  • Fluency in one or more other languages
  • Deliver, support and input to relevant strategic initiatives.
