We're looking for a Senior Maritime Consultant to join our Ports & Harbours Team at NASH Maritime. NASH are specialists in shipping, navigation, and maritime risk, helping ports, harbours, and maritime regulators create safer, more efficient, and sustainable operations. With over 25 years of hands-on experience, we provide innovative, evidence-based advice combining practical maritime expertise with data-driven insights.
As a Senior Maritime Consultant, you'll lead on navigation risk assessments, port operations reviews, and compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code. You'll analyse potential impacts from proposed operations or developments, prepare reports, contribute to stakeholder engagement, and manage projects to ensure delivery on time, budget, and quality standards. You'll also mentor junior staff and support business development activities, building experience that positions you for future progression to Principal Consultant.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to work on complex maritime projects, gaining exposure across ports, energy, and renewables sectors, while helping shape safer and more sustainable maritime environments.
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
- At least 5 years' professional experience in maritime consultancy, regulatory, or port environments
- A numerate degree in science, engineering, geography, risk/mathematics, or a related field
- Detailed understanding of shipping and navigation legislation, especially within port and harbour sectors
- Experience conducting or contributing to Navigation Risk Assessments
- Excellent report writing, oral communication, and computer literacy skills (MS Word, Excel)
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders
- Experience coordinating or drafting technical reports and proposals
- Self-motivation, curiosity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving
Nice to have:
- Structured thinking and problem-solving skills
- Experience leading large or complex Navigation Risk Assessments
- Experience with Port Marine Safety Code compliance and audits
- Experience as a navigation expert witness in Nationally Significant Infrastructure projects
- Knowledge of marine, maritime, or navigation Quantitative Risk Assessments
- Membership or chartered status with a relevant professional institution, or progression towards it
- Master's or higher degree focusing on navigation safety or risk
- Project management experience, including coordination of staff and subcontractors
- Recognised Project Management Qualification
