Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced registered mental health professional to manage Easington Community Mental Health for Older People Team .
The successful candidate will, with the support of their community and service leadership teams, improve the lives of people with mental ill health by minimising the impact of their condition through effective leadership, management and service development to enable the delivery of excellent services to promote recovery and well-being for all service users.
The team operates from a base in Seaham and covers the Easington patch from Seaham to Blackhall Colliery. The multi-disciplinary team provide assessment and intervention for older people with functional and organic mental health needs
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering excellent mental health services for older people and who can support and enable the team to achieve their potential. Key responsibilities will include staff supervision and appraisal, managing performance, recruitment and ensuring that people have timely access to our services and receive treatment in line with our pathways.
You will need to have excellent relationship building and engagement skills and be capable of managing varied work demands based on the changing needs of the service. You will understand and embrace the challenge of delivering a service which is high in quality, efficiency and sustainable supporting local and service quality and service improvement.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the operational delivery of the MHSOP service at team level and supporting the team in addressing issues impacting on service delivery. Sound leadership and excellent communication skills will be required to drive the delivery of an effective, efficient, high-quality service in accordance with Trust values, clinical standards, service priorities and performance requirements.
The post holder will be required to work closely with clinical, operational and professional leads across DTV MHSOP and must ensure effective links with other community teams and partners in Easington. The ability to work autonomously is essential with overall support and strategic direction from the Service Manager.
Responsible for ensuring that the safety, privacy and dignity of all patients is maintained in the delivery of patient centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs
Ensures that all staff take steps to obtain patient consent to care and treatment in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring that patients who lack mental capacity remain at the centre of decision-making and are fully safeguarded.
Ensures that all staff act, wherever applicable, in accordance with the Mental Health Act and associated policies and procedures.
Responsible for ensuring that all staff recognise the potential for or signs of patient harm, abuse and neglect, including poor clinical practice, report all such occurrences and take all reasonable steps to protect the patient.
Responsible for ensuring that all staff identify, and report concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.
Accountable for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of patients are maintained and delivered at all times in accordance with evidence-based practice by all members of the team.
Provides clinical advice and direction on complex issues, as appropriate, to clinical staff in the team and staff from other disciplines and external organisations
