Job description

Do you enjoy working with a variety of different people and organisations - some of whose views will agree with ours, some whose don't? Do you enjoy making sure the views of the communities we serve are taken into account in flooding and environmental projects and programmes? Would you enjoy working across the beautiful environment of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly? Are you a seasoned communications and engagement professional who is ready to lead on several exciting projects and programmes AND work within a fantastic team and department where you can really make a difference. If YES, then we would love to hear from you and would welcome your application to this role. In return, we can offer you a really stimulating experience and the chance to work with some great people in a beautiful place.

Current projects you would be working on include:

- The Dartmoor Headwaters Project
- Looe
- Powderham Banks

This is a senior post so you will be expected to work with very little supervision. You will be expected to react with your own initiative to sometimes complex, controversial and political incidents that cover not only flood risk management, but sometimes other environmental issues - are you prepared to 'get stuck in' and be part of a wider team of leaders?

In addition, you will also be expected to deliver one of our Duty Incident Management roles, likely communication and engagement cell lead.

The team

The role sits within the new RMA and Environment Project Development Delivery Team, part the Partnerships and Strategic Overview team in our FCRM department. This team focuses on the development and delivery of projects lead by RMAs and where nature-based solutions are the approach to increasing resilience to catchments and communities. Both these areas are key to the delivery of the National FCERM strategy and better protecting 314,000 properties between now and 2027.

Experience/skills required

We are seeking a team player who will have the opportunity to demonstrate the following:

- Exceptional leadership and technical competency in Communications and Engagement

- A high degree of confidence in dealing with difficult public relations situations and able to resolve them with calmness and professionalism

-Be able to advise others without communications and engagement expertise, on the right course of action, to get the best results

- Champion the importance the importance of communications and engagement in strategy, programme and project development and delivery

- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external partners and colleagues to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality FCERM Projects.

- Has strong, effective communication skills (written, graphical and verbal) and a proven ability to work with others across external and internal teams.
