About the role

The Commercial Trading Manager will be a key partner to the Head of Online Trading, overseeing the integration and execution of the overall trading strategy. This role will collaborate closely with the divisional Trading Managers, to pull together a unified trade plan for Online. The Commercial Trading Manager will ensure cohesive execution across all divisions, driving growth through data-driven strategies while also supporting day-to-day trading operations.

Key Responsibilities -

  • Website Trading & Revenue Growth: Trade the Matalan website, focusing on driving conversion and revenue, while ensuring seamless coordination across the online Divisions.
  • Overarching Trade Plan Coordination: Work alongside the Category Managers and Trade Planning to consolidate trading plans into a cohesive strategy. Ensure alignment with the overall online trading plan and business goals, under the strategic guidance of the Head of Online Trading.
  • Online Trading Plan Execution: Support the development of the online trading plan, incorporating input from Category Managers to ensure alignment with promotional and merchandising strategies.
  • Budgeting & Operational Forecasting: Collaborate with commercial finance and divisional Trading Managers to produce budgeting and forecasts for sales and margin, ensuring all operational forecasting supports the smooth running of the eCommerce operation.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead cross-functional collaboration, ensuring Category Managers are aligned with the Marketing and Trading teams to develop and execute divisional trading activities that meet sales targets.
  • Innovation & Customer Experience: Work closely with Category Managers to identify and implement new on-site opportunities, bringing forward ideas and innovations that improve the customer experience and conversion rates.
  • Promotional Planning & Execution: Lead the overarching promotional planning process, ensuring input and execution across the Divisions, and aligning with Marketing for effective promotion delivery.
  • Supplier Relations & Onboarding: Oversee the onboarding of new suppliers across both Fashion and Home, working closely with Dropship and concessions teams.
  • Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO): Coordinate with the Category Managers and the CRO lead to prioritise and implement trade-driving tests to support ongoing sales growth.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Manage reporting processes, ensuring Category Managers provide input and that consolidated data flows into the digital analytics teams for accurate performance tracking.
  • Platform Best Practices: Work with Category Managers and internal THG consultant to implement platform best practices across Fashion and Home, ensuring consistency and efficiency.

About You

  • At least 4 years of experience in a similar ecommerce role in a retail or consumer facing brand
  • Experience using Google Analytics, PowerBI and Content Square
  • An analytical and questioning mentality with excellent excel skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Proactive and positive approach to problem solving
  • A dynamic team player with great interpersonal skills
