Commercial Services Director

The Commercial Services Director is responsible for leading and driving the strategic direction and operational performance of the commercial services division. This role involves oversight and management of the data and insight strategies, advertising delivery optimisation and ensuring the efficient running of commercial processes through systems and tools.

The role will play a pivotal role in the use of data, including industry analytics, driving the strategy for Nucleus News UKs data platform and ensuring data is digested, analysed and interpreted to drive advertising performance

The Commercial Services Director is integral to enhancing operational efficiency, optimising business processes and understanding what clients and agencies need in order to create a best in class advertising delivery service.

Key Responsibilities:

Data & Insight Oversight:

  • Oversee the strategy for nucleus including the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data related to advertising delivery, performance, and commercial processes.
  • Oversee the use of industry tools and metrics.
  • Provide actionable insights to senior leadership, and key stakeholders to create strategies, and make business decisions.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across different platforms and sources.
  • Oversee the longer term strategy for News UK insight. Ensuring we deliver and promote industry leading insight to drive further advertising consideration
  • Ensure data compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards in all commercial dealings.

Advertising Delivery Optimisation:

  • Oversee the optimisation of advertising delivery processes, ensuring effective targeting, creative execution, pacing and campaign delivery to track campaign performance and commercial KPIs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team leaders to refine strategies aimed at improving ROI for advertising campaigns.
  • Use data-driven insights to recommend and implement improvements for maximising advertising impact.

Commercial Process Systems & Tools Management:

  • Oversee the systems and tools used for managing commercial processes, ensuring smooth integration and effective operation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements through automation or better tool utilisation.
  • Collaborate with tech teams to maintain and improve commercial process platforms and data pipelines.
  • Ensure that systems are compliant with industry standards and regulations.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work closely with internal teams such as sales and product development to ensure alignment on business objectives and performance goals.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Liaise with external vendors or partners to maintain relationships and ensure the best performance of commercial and advertising systems.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, competitor activity, tools, and technologies to drive innovation in data analysis, advertising, and commercial operations.
  • Lead efforts to continuously improve processes, data quality, and advertising delivery.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, advertising delivery, or commercial process management.
  • Proven experience in a senior commercial leadership role
  • Experience in team management and working with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful results
  • Experience managing systems and tools related to data, advertising, commercial operations, or business optimisation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of internal and external data analysis tools and implementation
  • Familiarity with advertising platforms and optimization tools (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads, programmatic platforms).
  • Proven track record of using data to drive decision-making and optimize advertising strategies.

Skills:

  • Strong leader with proven people management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship building abilities.
  • Deep knowledge of market dynamics and industry best practices
  • Strategic thinker with a results-driven approach.
  • Comprehensive understanding of News UK and external data analysis tools and implementation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
  • The ability to Identify new business opportunities and oversee the development of partnerships, contracts, and strategic alliances.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders.
