Why this job matters

A Product owner is a key player within the business as it is their core responsibility to understand the business vision, define the strategy and goals of their agile squad and prioritize the list of customer and commercial initiatives that are executed.

A brilliant product owner will build and develop strong working relationships across a wide variety of business stakeholders such as product, propositions, finance, insight, trading teams etc. They work will be working hand in hand with those teams to ensure the goals are defined, tracked, and delivered.

The business will look to the product owner to help them understand what is happening within the customer base across multiple dimensions (products, life stages, channels, commercial KPIS, household/customer view etc.) and then make recommendations based on that knowledge and expertise.

A Product owner is a core leader of a customer journey multi-disciplined agile squad. Each squad is responsible for the design, delivery, and execution of inbound, outbound commercial and customer marketing goals.

A customer journey squad is part of a Household Enrichment Alliance of squads which is responsible and accountable for their own defined set of responsibilities as agreed with their Alliance Lead.

What you'll be doing

  • Set the vision and strategy for the customer journey squad
  • Build collaborative partner working relationships around the wider business to understand the broader business goals and deliver on mutual benefit
  • Define the objectives and key results to underpin and track performance of delivery of the initiatives and success measures
  • Define the problem statements for the CLM manager to be able to size/business case the initiatives
  • Prioritize and optimize the initiatives that deliver the strategy
  • Responsible for unlocking and delivering benefits/efficiencies and solving problems in the Squad, with assistance of the squad members as required
  • Communicate the initiatives and priorities and rational to the wider business and Senior Leadership Team
  • Pivot and reprioritize the plan/strategy when required communicating clear rational to the squad and stakeholders

The skills and experience you will have under your belt

  • Story-telling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences
  • Business acumen: Knowledgeable in business strategy and the drivers of organizational performance, including people drivers of performance and financial literacy (e.g., business KPIs, business cases and customer success)
  • Problem Solving mindset: ability to frame problems precisely and collaborate with the teams to build meaningful customer and commercial outcomes
  • Communication: Able to understand what matters to customers, identify business opportunities and influence and inform stakeholders
  • Decision Making: use data to be able to inform decision making and able to make decisions quickly and effectively when there is no data
  • Motivate others: Able to motivate and celebrate the successes of the squad as well as encourage to utilize and explore new business tools and capabilities
  • Customer & commercial Marketing skills: understanding of end to end marketing processes and customer lifecycle management
