Berkshire Talent Partnership is exclusively supporting the search for a Head of Commercial to lead a high-impact function within a growing Flexible Generation business.
This is a rare opportunity to shape commercial strategy, lead a high-performing QS team, and drive success across complex, fast-paced energy projects.

The Role This pivotal position oversees all pre- and post-contract surveying duties, strategic development of the commercial function, and leadership of the Quantity Surveying (QS) team. You'll be a driving force behind commercial strategy, resource planning, and ensuring financial performance across a portfolio of flexible generation projects.

Key Responsibilities Commercial Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and implement the commercial strategy across the Flexible Generation division.
  • Shape and structure the commercial function, optimising the balance of internal and external resources.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the QS team while fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
  • Deliver clear, accurate monthly commercial reports for senior management and board-level review.

Contract & Procurement Management

  • Design procurement plans and contracting strategies aligned with business and project goals.
  • Collaborate with legal partners to develop robust contract templates and frameworks.
  • Lead supply chain negotiations with a focus on favourable terms and strategic risk allocation.
  • Manage contract administration through platforms such as CEMAR, ensuring integration with financial controls.

Risk & Financial Oversight

  • Shape and advise on commercial risk profiles and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee claims, forecasts, and commercial health across the portfolio.
  • Provide clarity on the financial implications of contracts to all project stakeholders.
  • Deliver clear reporting on the commercial status of tenders and live projects.

Operational & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Project Managers to manage the interface between technical, programme, and commercial priorities.
  • Engage confidently with clients, suppliers, and partners, ensuring alignment with core business values.
  • Drive integration of commercial processes with project delivery for maximum efficiency.

What We're Looking For

  • Senior-level commercial or QS background within energy, infrastructure, or major construction projects.
  • Expertise in contract law, procurement strategy, risk management, and financial reporting.
  • Inspirational leadership style with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong negotiation, commercial, and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with CEMAR or similar contract management systems.
