Liveable Places is a growing and highly successful service area within our Planning and Local Government business with a wide range of local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. We deliver a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery that include public realm, traffic engineering, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian / traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. We have had recent key successes with Westminster City Council, West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council, Leeds City Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, Richmond Council, Croydon Council, Redbridge Council, West of England Combined Authorities and many, many more.

The Liveable Places team is based in offices across the UK with over 200 staff (as well as over 60 staff in India), currently making up the team with further growth planned. YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?

The Finance Manager role is a key role within the Discipline Operational Management Team (OMT) and will be responsible for the financial management of Liveable Places. The role will require closely working with the Operations Team in Liveable Places, working to the Operations Team Leader to control our Profit & Loss and delivery of budget expectations. The role will also require the successful candidate to take control of the commercial management of our Westminster City Council contracts.

The role will require that person to understand the business and assist with embedding a strong project management and financial culture around a technically excellent and efficient delivery model, balanced with the need to satisfy client, colleague and commercial expectations.

KEY ATTRIBUTES AND BEHAVIOURS

The role has several key attributes and behaviours across a number of areas which will be needed to help you excel in the role. It is expected that this person will manage the commercial performance of Liveable Places.

Management & Leadership

  • Exhibit and demonstrate behaviours and attitudes in accordance with WSP's core values through effective team working with open communication
  • Provide visible financial / commercial management and support for the Liveable Places cost centre whilst ensuring appropriate understanding and gravitas
  • Provide support and guidance to the Operational Team Lead and Operational Management Team as well as other senior staff as necessary in terms of finances, commercials and project management
  • Supporting Project Managers / Directors to ensure the accurate financial reporting of projects in Oracle and consistency of monthly revenue recognition.
  • Support PM to ensure understanding of Oracle from Opportunities through to Direct Projects, contract revenue recognition and budgets.

Commercial, Financial & Operations

  • Responsible for effective financial commercial support to influence the financial performance of the centre
  • Responsible for annual budget preparation and successful delivery of the budget, understanding and reporting on any variations to budget (Revenue, Operating Margin, Billing, EBITDA and DSO)
  • Responsible for Liveable Places financial performance/reporting and particular responsibility for financial performance/reporting for the Westminster City Council contract
  • Responsibility for accuracy and overview of Liveable Places financial forecasts
  • Responsible for Liveable Places working capital management
  • Manage monthly finance needs and lead month end processes promoting the use/understanding of Power BI

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications.

  • A relevant qualification in financial / commercial / project management field
  • Membership and chartership of a relevant professional body, or working towards this
  • Significant proven ability to manage, lead and direct the financial and commercial performance of projects across a large team
  • The ability to prioritise, to achieve deadlines and to work with minimal supervision
  • Good spoken and written communication skills with the ability influence others
  • Engagement will be required not just internally with WSP but also with clients
