About the role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a terrific opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join our £1.2 billion Lower Thames Crossing project, consisting of 43 bridges, including viaducts, 17km of complex Highways construction, complex utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry leading approach to carbon reduction.
Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play.
As a Commercial Manager, you will act as a key commercial interface between project delivery teams, subcontractors, and the client, ensuring compliance with contract terms, robust cost control, and clear, accurate reporting.
What you'll be doing
Governance
- Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company's governance
requirements and maximises LEAN/digital opportunities.
Commercial Management
- Manage the day-to-day commercial administration of defined project sections, ensuring compliance with the main contract and subcontract agreements.
- Administer the defined cost contract including disallowed cost assessments, compensation events and cost verification.
- Provide commercial input to operational decisions, ensuring risks and opportunities are commercially managed.
- Ensure subcontract and supply chain compliance with contractual and company procedures.
Commercial Administration
- Provides commercial input to Buildability and Value Engineering reviews.
- To co-ordinate the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned.
- To manage the preparation and review of Earned Value Management.
- Manage the preparation of the monthly Cost and Value Reconciliation (CVR) and associated commercial reports.
Customer/Change Management
- Work collaboratively with the supply chain's commercial team to ensure smooth and transparent communication on cost and change matters.
- Assist the Senior Commercial Manager with risk and opportunity management, maintaining accurate registers and mitigation plans.
- Foster strong relationships with internal teams and the supply chain to ensure commercial awareness and compliance with contract procedures.
Reporting
- Support the Senior Commercial Manager in compiling project-level commercial performance reports for internal and client reviews.
- Monitor and report on subcontractor account status, including payments, liabilities and variations.
- Ensure data integrity in defined cost submissions, reconciling site cost data and finance records.
Who we're looking for
- BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
- Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
- CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person)
