Job Introduction

We are seeking a Commercial Manager to join our HS2 London Tunnels contract, working within the Engineering Services Team.

About the role:

As Commercial Manager working in the Enabling Functions as part of the Engineering Services Team you will be responsible for the commercial management of all activities associated with the delivery of ground water management subcontract and support the co-ordination and commercial administration of the framework and NEC Option G subcontracts containing design elements.

You will be commercially leading various tasks primarily associated with asset protection design activities under Framework subcontracts and NEC Option G subcontracts which cover ground movement assessments, mitigation designs, structural inspections, settlement deeds and temporary works associated with the protection of assets during the construction of the Works. You will be involved with all aspects of the project lifecycle, seeking to minimise the costs of the project and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality in accordance with contract and Customer's and/or Contract Leader expectations. You will be expected to work independently reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager.

Role Responsibility

As Commercial Manager, you will commercially lead on various Asset Protection activities involving design of the asset protection working with the Delivery Unit Asset Protection teams (including the Area Asset Projection Quantity Surveyors). You will be expected to provide reasoned advice, demonstrate depth of knowledge and you will be expected to:

  • Administer contract conditions and subcontract terms ensuring compliance with contractual obligations;
  • Undertake budget forecasting and cost control supporting and taking responsibility for Contract Financial Control and Reporting, including Cash Flow Management;
  • Undertake management and assessment of Variations and Change;
  • Be responsible for ensuring the management of project insurances and claims in the event that such should apply (and to be aware of possible claims that may arise associated with Asset Protection.
  • You may be required to support sub-contract enquiries, sub-contract Tender evaluation, sub-contract negotiation.
  • You will be required to provide oversight of the various Asset Protection subcontractors involving design ensuring changes to their subcontracts are commercially managed and fairly assessed and value recovery is clear (i.e the causes of change are clearly understood and documented).

The Ideal Candidate

  • Degree or equivalent level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related construction subject
  • Strong Problem Solving Can-Do Approach - preferably subcontract and change management experience
  • Independent working
  • Very Good Knowledge in Microsoft Excel
  • Preferably Experience in Design and Rail or Infrastructure projects
  • Preferably qualified to ICES or RICS accreditation and Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
