Commercial Manager
Aztec West, Bristol. Hybrid with travel to HPC site and Satellite Delivery Centre, Bridgwater, as required.
Do you take pride in delivering high quality work? Are you a proactive problem solver who thrives on tackling challenges head-on? Can you communicate clearly and effectively to keep contractors and stakeholders aligned?
If so, we want to hear from you!
The Opportunity
At Hinkley Point C (HPC), we are constructing two new nuclear reactors, marking the first of a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. Once operational, these reactors will provide low-carbon electricity to power around six million homes.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Pre-Ops and Commissioning Team for a Commercial Manager. You will join an ever-expanding team to help with the day-to day contract and commercial management duties for Pre-Ops and Commissioning contracts. This will involve liaising with contractors and being responsible for managing and reviewing payments, contact administration (via CEMAR) and general commercial management duties including risk mitigation.
As part of your role, you will have further opportunities to develop and support the delivery of Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA) for HPC which is a significant workstream for the operational phase of the project. This will require the co-ordination and oversight of the complete procurement cycle in line with HPC governance requirements, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a competitive starting salary from £45,000 - £60,000 (negotiable depending on experience), and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We're talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone's welcome. We're on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We'd like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we support you to pursue a career that's unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you'll be doing
You'll oversee the day-to-day management of Supply Chain Assistants, guiding them to ensure seamless project operations. You'll be responsible for the delivery of contracts, ensuring alignment with HPC governance requirements and business objectives.
Throughout each contract phase, you'll play a key role:
- Procurement Phase: Supporting the procurement process and assisting the Senior Commercial Manager by assessing the contract's scope, duration, and expected value against the Contract Authorised Sum (CAS), and defining commercial requirements.
- Execution Phase: Leading the commercial administration of contracts, aiming to optimize operational and financial outcomes while minimizing risk, ensuring the safe and cost-effective delivery of the HPC programme.
- Closeout Phase: Managing contract closeouts, providing commercial support to project managers, and ensuring formal completion of all project contracts. You'll also identify and document key commercial insights and lessons learned for future projects.
- Throughout, you'll provide commercial support to the Senior Commercial Manager to facilitate effective contract delivery and help drive the success of HPC's business objectives.
Who you are
- You're an experienced contract management professional with a solid foundation in commercial practices and a proven track record of successfully administering contracts. You have a strong understanding of best-practice methodologies and bring sound decision-making skills, especially in high-value financial matters. With expertise in contract performance measurement, risk, and change management, you're well-equipped to handle complex commercial functions.
- Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience, you're familiar with the most widely used contract forms in the industry, including NEC and FIDIC, and have a particular focus on UK law and its implications on contract and commercial roles. Ideally, you also bring knowledge of the nuclear site license conditions and the UK regulatory framework, and you may even be a member of a professional body such as RICS, CICES, or IOB.
Success is personal. It's your journey, powered by us. Join us and we'll help Britain achieve Net Zero, together.

Why Join Us?
For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.
Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation - but they also have an eye on the future.
EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.
Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.
We're not just building new nuclear power stations. We're developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.
It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there's always a need for more.
Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it's also an industry which is changing.
We're a responsible business and proud to be Britain's biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
