What you'll do:

Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial, your responsibilities will include:

  • Partner management. You will independently manage a portfolio of lenders, including some of TM's largest partners. You'll foster sustainable senior relationships with partners in order to maximise the long-term benefits of each partnership; and maintain a comprehensive view of the competitive landscape and opportunities to contract, negotiate and onboard new ones
  • Commercial performance. Monitor key commercial metrics and deep dive into the data to troubleshoot or identify new growth opportunities. You will conduct analysis and present the findings to our partners, our management team, and the rest of the business. You will work autonomously, making data driven decisions and/ recommendations for the business or external partner to optimise trading performance.
  • Market insight and strategic projects. You will work cross-functionally with our product, tech, marketing, and legal teams to lead on key commercial and/or business projects. Internally, you'll be responsible for the development and rollout of Open Banking across TM's lenders. Externally, you'll play a key role in representing TM at external events and on LinkedIn.
  • Contract Negotiation and Compliance. You will lead contract negotiations and manage the execution of agreements with UK lenders, clients and partners. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements both in contract work and in overall lender marketplace activity - working with internal teams as needed.
  • Leadership & line management. You'll be part of a high performing, collaborative commercial team and take the lead on cross-functional projects with defined business and commercial objectives. You will line-manage one commercial executive, providing regular coaching and development. .

Here's what a normal day in the job might look like:

  • Running team meetings. Weekly trading meetings involve deep diving into performance data in our BI tool, Thoughtspot, to identify risks and new growth opportunities.
  • Partner meetings. Weekly meetings / QBRs are an opportunity to discuss performance insights and build trusted relationships with external partners. You will prepare content and manage strategic partner initiatives.
  • Representing the commercial team cross functionally. As a commercial team, we work closely with product, compliance, CRM and finance to deliver business objectives. As a senior member of the team, you will represent the commercial interest in meetings.
  • Negotiating commercial contracts. Working closely with legal, you will qualify, conduct due diligence, negotiate deals and onboard new partners as well as negotiating new terms with existing partners.

Succeeding in your first few months includes:

  • Using your exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to take over key relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Operating with a high degree of autonomy and taking ownership of projects/outcomes.
  • Effectively managing competing priorities and escalating risks to the Head of Commercial.
  • Becoming accustomed to our BI platform and using it to take a data-driven approach to problem solving and tracking key business metrics.
  • Contributing to a positive team culture and building a trusted relationship with your direct report

Requirements

Qualifications and skills:

Here's what we think you'll need to succeed in this role:

  • A university degree, 2.1 or higher
  • Proven experience in a commercial manager role within fintech, financial services, or a related industry.
  • Experience setting and meeting business targets.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to prioritise in order to maximise commercial impact

It'll help if you're the type of person who:

  • Has an ambition to manage a direct report (even if you haven't done this before)
  • Enjoys working autonomously and accounting for yourself to get things done
  • Can work collaboratively and bring along people in different teams and functions

The hiring process:

Once we've received your application, we'll take a good look before getting in touch with you to discuss the next steps of the process. This will include:

  • Phone screening with people team (15mins)
  • Virtual maths test (max. 30mins)
  • First stage interview with hiring manager (45mins)
  • Second stage interview with COO, including an in-the-room assessment (60mins)
  • Final round chat with CEO (30 mins)
