Tetra Tech is one of the Ministry of Defence's leading suppliers of professional services and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager to join the team delivering a defence project of national significance with an indicative capital budget of circa Ā£1bn. You will be joining an established team to lead commercial aspects of the project through procurement and delivery stages. This is a career defining role in which there is ample opportunity for both personal and professional development.

You will be an experienced commercial manager from an appropriate professional background with detailed knowledge of the NEC suite of contracts and a proven track record in management forms of contracting. Ideally, you will have experience of working in a regulated environment. You will be collaborative and able to build solid and lasting business relationships.

This role is site-based, working a condensed working week of 37.5 hours across 4 days. Due to the confidentiality of the project, more information will be given to successful applicants.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Leading on the procurement and Commercial Management of an NEC4 Option F Management contract.
  • Leading and coordinating a team of QS/Cost managers to manage the open-book procurement of sub-contract work packages under a range of NEC4 Main Options in collaboration with the Management Contractor.
  • Procurement and Commercial Management of an NEC4 Option A enabling works contract.
  • Reviewing and updating the project risk register and risk spend profile.
  • Following project governance and reporting controls to manage the risk draw down process.
  • Preparation and presentation of monthly project commercial reports, including contract data metrics and forecast to completion.
  • Updating and presenting monthly finance reports providing details on actual expenditure against forecast spend and variance analysis commentary.
  • Updating ad hoc data and reports as required to support business cases and governance audits.
  • Procurement and management of survey works as required by the project team.
  • Assessing and advising on early procurement of long-lead items and project-critical materials and equipment.
  • Management of claims, mitigation and advising on defence of claims, including analysis of the various parties' positions.
  • Attending and leading commercial meetings, with client, end-user, internal teams and contractors.
  • Reviewing and reporting on contractor performance, including review of monthly progress reports and project metrics such as Earned Value and KPIs.

Essential Experience:

  • Able to obtain UK Security Clearance at Developed Vetting level.
  • Located in the London / Southeast area or be willing to travel
  • Experience of commercial management of major projects and/or programmes of work delivered under the reimbursable main options of the NEC suite of contracts (Options C - F) or variants thereof.
  • Commercial management of major projects and/or programmes of work delivered via a Management Contracting / Construction Management route.
  • Experience of delivering major civil engineering works.Must be a Chartered Quantity Surveyor or hold an equivalent level of professional qualification from a relevant professional body.
  • Experience in developing packaging and procurement strategies for large, complex infrastructure projects.
  • Highly experienced in cost reporting including production of cash flow forecasts, variance reporting and analysis.
  • Highly experienced in risk management and its application in developing strategies, estimates and cost plans.
  • Excellent numeracy and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder and supplier relationship management skills.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of projects delivered under NEC4 Option F or be willing to undertake training in the use of this main option.
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment (e.g. defence, nuclear, healthcare, rail, etc).
  • Working for or reporting directly to a client organisation.
