Commercial Manager - Manchester

Role
We are looking to bolster our commercial team within our UK North business unit with the appointment of a Commercial Manager to work on a large projects in the Manchester area. The Commercial Lead will take full commercial responsibility and ownership for the project, working closely with the Project Manager to ensure a successful project is delivered, while maintaining relationships and maximising commercial returns and managing risk.

Key Responsibilties

  • Liaise with the customer, his representatives and other 3rd parties on commercial issues, including the agreement of additional monies.
  • Cost and value management for project, ensuring appropriate systems and procedures are in place
  • Financial reporting for project
  • Change management for project: record change and allocate responsibility. Evaluate/recover any change that is not Sisks's risk/liability (including recovery from 3rd parties.
  • Risk and opportunity management for project: management (with operations team) of known and newly identified risks and opportunities for best project return as well as identification and implementation of mitigation measures
  • Manage commercial team to ensure delivery of key responsibilities and develop their knowledge
  • Provide support and training for site staff on commercial items
  • Trains and shares knowledge at every opportunity and mentors as part of Excelerate Programme
  • Supervises the preparation of Cost Plans for complex projects, using a range of cost planning techniques and software, manages the compilation of data to permit various analyses
  • Interrogate and manages the suite of project cost reports from raw data and provides analysis that can inform key decisions
  • Prepares long term cash forecasts for complex projects, monitors results and interprets reasons for deviations. Uses established techniques to minimise outflow of cash and maximise inflow.
  • Has detailed knowledge and experience of the project cost management system and can provide detailed guidance to others
  • Devises innovative systems to control and monitor direct works cost and financial performance
  • Devises and manages complex Project Cost Reporting systems, with associated capacity to interrogate data and identify trends
  • Proposes actions in response to changes in client and stakeholder needs and expectations
  • Professionally networks within and beyond Sisk and is able to draw on these contacts in support of their role
  • Initiates identified and valuable business relationships and works to ensure they are developed effectively over time
  • Proactively ensures own and other peoples objectives/activities are aligned to Sisk and business unit plans
  • Reviews effectiveness of change procedures and develop improvements where necessary
  • Reports risks associated with design liability and draft step-down clauses into Sub-Contractor/ Designer Agreements

Experience & Skills

  • Able to devise, manage and monitor complex project cost reporting systems, with associated capacity to interrogate data and identify trends
  • Able to facilitate risk management reviews, identify and classify project and business risks, reconcile the interaction of various risks, and propose and implement viable solutions
  • Able to construct compelling arguments in pursuance of entitlements
  • Skilled negotiator able to manage and lead a negotiating team in relation to complex projects, and secure acceptable commercial results
  • Able to manage a dispute through any form of dispute resolution process with practical knowledge and understanding of all legal techniques attached thereto
  • Demonstrates commitment and leadership by creating a culture and set of behaviours on the project that supports Sisk HSE Group vision and aspirations
  • Will have led a Commercial Team to (a) delivery of a portfolio of projects and/or (b) led the delivery of a very large or major project
  • Has a detailed knowledge of design and build process. Can develop delivery plan for multi-disciplined teams on complex projects and ensure delivery thereof
  • Able to produce contractual correspondence and reports quickly, concisely and effectively to requirements. Is able to supervise the production and presentation of these
  • Able to lead, guide, devise and negotiate the approach format and timescale of complex valuations

Qualifications/Training

  • Membership of a Professional Institution - such as SCSI or RICS
  • Financial Management
  • Dispute resolution
  • Behavioural Based Safety (BBS)
  • Managing and leading others
