Introduction:

An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence UK as a Commercial Manager.

This position is a non-line management role within the BDUK Fixed Wing Commercial Team, reporting to the Head of Commercial. The Fixed Wing business portfolio is comprised of programmes for the E-7, P-8A and C-17 Boeing platforms with a mix of ongoing growth activities (pre-signature) and long-term contracted programmes of record (post-signature) focused on integrated solutions for aircraft & ground based systems equipment, platform maintenance services, training services, mission system support services, engineering support, logistics support and infrastructure projects. Across these programmes you'll find energetic and motivated integrated & international teams working together to deliver to our primary customer, the UK Ministry of Defence. Our predominant business is within Single Source Contract Regulations, therefore a strong working knowledge and an aptitude to learn and apply understanding of these into the ways that we work and deliver compliant & optimal solutions is vital, as is the ability to develop effective, lasting relationships with customers and stakeholders alike. The Commercial function delivers value-adding business partnering in all phases of the contract lifecycle and is instrumental in performance outcomes.

About the role:

In this role you'll have the opportunity to work with and support colleagues across our teams as we support a wide variety of responsibilities in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. You can expect assignments requiring typical contract management execution duties, providing expert commercial support and exercising strong business judgment in optimising our delivery of the contract and working closely with our customer; leading and supporting contract change and amendment proposals of varying sizes and complexity to our UKMoD customer and into other parts of the Boeing enterprise as part of intercompany arrangements; you may be asked to participate in and support other strategic imperatives of the overall Fixed Wing business as we pursue growth opportunities within and outside of our key platform portfolio.

Position Responsibilities:

This position is expected to fulfil a variety of tasks and responsibilities typically associated with a Commercial technical role, including, but not limited to;

  • Exercises appropriate signature authority, leads, and participates in proposal development, negotiating and contracting for the sale and support of aerospace products, services, technologies, financing and the licensing of intellectual property to support company strategies.
  • Leads the presentation and development of complex business solutions to preserve and expand the business.
  • Represents the company in external negotiations with responsibility to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customer counterparts
  • Authority to prepare, negotiate, execute, interpret and administer legally binding contractual agreements of a complex nature for The Boeing Company for contract change proposals, contract amendments and new business proposals.
  • Implementing and leading effective governance, in accordance with delegations of authority, to ensure robust, protective and profitable outcomes through leadership approaches to contract and proposal management
  • Building and maintaining effective customer and stakeholder relationships,
  • Leads coordination and partnership with other internal functional disciplines, acting as a trusted advisor, integrating business / finance / programme priorities to create solutions that balance business financial performance and customer relationship management, including management of intercompany arrangements with other Boeing business units.
  • Summarizes complex contractual issues, and leads development of creative solutions and coordination of contractual risk mitigation and contract opportunity management.
  • Interpretation of contractual terms and positions in working through problems and finding win-win solutions, participating in a very broad range of topics that may include intellectual property, security considerations, import and export control
  • Implements and maintains effective commercial governance to protect company interest and ensure fully aligned work approaches
  • Responsible for discharging contractual obligations
  • Authorises company work and administers contracts and agreements in accordance with contractual requirements,
  • Participation in early campaign phases to commercially influence and shape to align with business strategy and core capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

  • IACCM / CIMA or MBA or significant experience in similar role
  • Knowledge of Single Source Contract Regulations
  • Experience of competitive bidding
  • Experience of NEC3 contracting
  • Excellent customer relationship management
  • Knowledge and skilled in defence contracting and terms & conditions - drafting, interpretation and negotiating
  • Understanding and demonstrable application of Single Source Contract Regulations
  • Proven negotiation skills

Relocation:

This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Work Authorization:

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorization to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.

PLEASE NOTE: The successful candidate will be expected to undergo a Security Clearance Process, which will require 5 years uninterrupted residency in the UK prior to applying.
