The role

A position has arisen in our Commercial Dispute Resolution team to work with and alongside our partners in Leeds who specialise in a broad range of commercial litigation as well as complex contractual disputes. The team are proud to have the largest team and niche expertise in premier house builder litigation.

To help us succeed and achieve our ambitions, we are looking to appoint an experienced solicitor who is currently operating at associate / senior associate level (ideally 5 years PQE plus). You will join our highly successful national CDR team based in our Leeds office. The role is particularly suitable for a candidate who has demonstrable experience in handling a range of commercial litigation for large corporates.

The team is friendly, supportive and sociable, and works in a collaborative manner with our colleagues from other offices as well as with our clients. You can expect to be supported by the partners and senior team members and in turn be asked to support junior members of the team.

The team

Our national CDR team is experienced in and manages a wide variety of commercial disputes for a range of matters including corporate transactions, property related agreements, development & construction litigation, complex projects and trading contracts.

CDR have an enviable reputation for a proactive and proficient approach to commercial litigation and dispute resolution. Their expertise means they can handle a broad range of disputes, working with our clients including most the country's leading housebuilders, many financial institutions and large corporate household names, as based in Yorkshire, nationally and international.

The person

The candidate will demonstrate a genuine desire to be part of a rapidly growing team, enthusiasm and the drive to continue learning and be actively involved in business development activities. This role will ideally suit a Senior Associate who has previous experience working in a corporate lending and acquisition finance banking team but we would also consider someone with other transactional banking and finance experience who would like to make a transition.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • The successful candidate will ideally have at least 5 years' PQE with experience within a broad range of commercial dispute resolution matters which may include property litigation, complex contractual disputes for housebuilder clients, construction litigation and general commercial litigation on a broad range of transactions.
  • Confident in managing the day to day running of own caseload of commercial dispute resolution transactions.
  • As an associate or senior associate role it will encompass responsibility for supervising junior members of the team.
  • Possess demonstrable legal technical ability and have the expertise to provide clear, logical and understandable commercial dispute resolution advice in a timely and competent manner.
  • Effectively managing colleague and client relationships, you will have the opportunity to strengthen existing clients alongside actively engaging in new business / cross selling services within Gateley.
  • An ability and willingness to learn, excellent commercial acumen and great negotiation skills.
  • Personable and dynamic personality with a passion for working collaboratively.
