The Centre for Oral, Clinical and Translational Sciences (COCTS) brings together discovery and clinical scientists combining efforts aimed at improving oral and dental health through research and innovation leading to translation. The Centre is in an exciting phase of renewal with significant investment into state-of-the-art interdisciplinary science laboratories and support of translational and clinical research. Members of the centre have international reputations in mineralised tissue research, biomaterials, tissue engineering, device and diagnostic technology development, computer science and AI, and clinical research. Strong educational support is provided to both undergraduate and postgraduate students and we seek to appoint an academic that will strengthen and diversify the capacity of the centre in both research and education.
About the role
The purpose of this role is to contribute to the leadership, delivery and development of KCL undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes in Paediatric Dentistry; undertake research complementary to the overall research strategy of the Faculty and Kings Health Partners (KHP) Dental CAG and at a level commensurate to a KCL Clinical Lecturer/Senior Clinical Lecturer appointment as well as contributing to day-to-day clinical practice in Paediatric dentistry.
This will also involve undertaking such administrative, managerial, and other duties as are reasonably to be expected of a member of clinical academic staff, as agreed with Faculty/Clinical Lead whilst achieving the above objectives in a coordinated way by effective teamwork and collaboration with colleagues.
This is a full time role and you will be offered an indefinite contract
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Full GDC other relevant body registration with valid license to practice
- PhD qualified in relevant subject area (or pending results)
- Listed GDC Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry
- Attainment of Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Exit Examination
- Demonstrable evidence of competitive and externally funded research applications at a level commensurate with a senior clinical lecturer appointment with solid record of publication of high quality research outputs in leading specialist and non-specialist peer reviewed academic journals
- Experience of teaching and clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students/ specialist trainees and supervision of student research projects
- Chair or member of faculty committees, especially assessment and exam boards
- Evidence of multidisciplinary clinical audit and demonstratable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
Desirable criteria
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Experience of curriculum or module development and awareness of different approaches for delivery of curricula.
- Ability to manage multiple and demanding stakeholders whilst working to deadlines
- Evidence of engagement with the public or cultural sectors, with industry, business or professional bodies
- Evidence of development of junior colleagues, e.g. training of staff and PGRs new to teaching
