Detailed job description and main responsibilities

o Update website content on a regular basis ensuring it remains relevant and up to date, working with relevant stakeholders. Work with the Trust Digital Manager and Head of Digital to develop new web pages to highlight key infrastructure.
o Drive awareness of key research breakthroughs to trigger timely content development that drives the thought leadership agenda. Develop strong professional relationships with clinical and research staff.
o Amend and repurpose press releases published to the main websites of The Royal Marsden and the ICR to include on the NIHR BRC website, in addition to drafting independent news articles.
o Develop content for impactful BRC and CRF social media campaigns working closely with The Royal Marsden Social Media Manager.
o Understand and apply agreed editorial and brand guidelines to all copy and imagery in order to maintain a high standard for all content published.
o Work with The Royal Marsden in-house videographer to coordinate the production of video content when necessary.
o Working with the Trust Digital Manager and Head of Digital, assess engagement metrics for the BRC website and social media channels and make recommendations to improve engagement.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree qualification.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.

Desirable criteria

  • Science background.
  • Communications (digital, marketing, public relations) qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience writing content with the ability to translate scientific information for a lay audience and to tailor messages to different audiences
  • Experience of planning, producing and publishing content across digital channels, including working with content management systems and social media channels.
  • Experience of working effectively in a cross matrix, complex organisation.
  • Experience of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in working in a science, academic or a research-focused NHS environment
  • Experience in organising public events, seminars, interviews, conferences and workshops to drive engagement.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Strong writing skills, able to adapt tone and content to a variety of different audiences and platforms.
  • Good technical understanding with the ability to pick up new tools quickly
  • Strong written accuracy, editorial and proofreading skills and great attention to detail
  • Able to analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform future communications activity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate liaison with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including experienced scientists and clinicians.
  • Highly organised, with strong planning skills and the ability to prioritise own workload.

Flu Vaccination - What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
