JOB TITLE

Senior Accountant

The role can be based out of our Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness offices, with at least one day per week worked from the office.

REPORTING TO

Neil Ritchie, Director of Personal Tax

JOB PURPOSE

The role is responsible for the completion of the firm's charities and company accounts. In addition to ensuring that all deadlines are met, consideration will be needed to ensure that accounts are prepared in time for annual client meetings meaning that the accountant is required to liaise with the lawyers; and responsible for ensuring that the work is planned such that the information is requested and time is allocated for each set of accounts to meet both the formal and client set deadlines.

CORE TASKS

• Company Accounts:

• Review draft accounts, take these through to completion and send to clients for signature with commentary highlighting the key aspects of the accounts. Where needed, ensure these are filed at Companies House promptly.
• Preparation of company accounts as required.
• Charity Accounts:
• Review charity accounts
• Liaise with the Charity partner to understand deadlines and ensure accounts are prepared to these deadlines
• Liaise with charity auditors to ensure they have all that they need to sign-off the accounts.
• Ensure charity accounts and the OSCR report is submitted timeously.
• Manage charitable deductions where appropriate.
• Manage the work stream to ensure information is received and the accounts are prepared, signed and submitted timeously, liaising with lawyers, the tax team and wealth managers as appropriate.
• Supervise the work of an accounts assistant, including VAT and payroll. Provide support, training and instruction as required.
• Be aware of Brodies' information security polices, and protect information assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference at all times.

• Organised and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Committed to the highest level of client care and service
• Excellent attention to detail
• Ability to challenge and improve existing practises

SKILLS

• You will be an experienced, qualified Chartered Accountant (ICAS, ACCA or equivalent)
• You will have experience of preparing accounts for charities and companies.
• Previous experience within the legal sector is preferable but not essential
• Previous experience of managing an assistant is preferable.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Experience using SAGE - or the ability to learn and adapt to new systems/software quickly.
