West London Forensic Service provides comprehensive multi-disciplinary assessment, treatment & rehabilitation services for male & female mentally disordered offenders, plus those with challenging behaviour & specialist rehabilitation needs. We are looking for an enthusiastic & capable Ward manager to join our team on Parkland Ward & help provide highest quality care to meet therapeutic needs of our patients. Parkland Ward is part of Women's Forensic Services, it is a Medium Secure admission ward.

The central function of Parkland Ward is to assess & address therapeutic needs of patients & provide individual tailored programmes with an acknowledgment of specific gender needs of women. The ward aims to reduce risk, promote development of insight & enable patients to progress through their care pathway.

Main duties of the job

Overview of Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To establish and maintain communication, with various individuals and groups of patients, carers and staff on complex potentially stressful topics in a range of situations.

2. To develop knowledge and practice on the ward and across the service.

3. To promote best practice in health, safety and security.

4. To develop and improve services.

5. To improve quality.

6. To enable people to exercise their rights and promote their equality and diversity.

7. To ensure the ongoing assessment of people's care needs on the ward.

8. To ensure that the planning, delivery and evaluation of care programmes addresses the complex and changing needs all patients.

9. To develop and sustain partnership working with individuals, groups, communities and agencies.

10. To lead the ward team in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice.

11. To allocate, coordinate, monitor and assess the work of the team and individuals

12. Adhere to NMC Code of Professional Conduct guidelines and requirements, promoting the highest standards of conduct and maintaining knowledge of current issues and changes in professional practice.

13. To plan, obtain and deploy physical and/or financial resources.

14. To ensure the recovery approach is embedded in day to day clinical practice.

15. To promote the Trust values (Togetherness, Responsibility, Excellence and Caring).

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered on the NMC register, parts 3, 4 or 13
  • Relevant post registration health care and/or management qualifications
  • Mentorship/Teaching & assessing qualification

Desirable criteria

  • First or higher degree in appropriate subject area
  • NVQ Assessor
  • Recovery training
  • Non-Medical Prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Two years' at Clinical Team Leader Band 6 or above.
  • Budget and resource management understanding.
  • Experience of providing management supervision and appraisal
  • First line management & leadership experience.
  • Competent in receiving and providing clinical supervision and reflective practice
  • Competent in operating CPA systems.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance
  • Knowledge and understanding of recovery approach.
  • Awareness of nursing agendas, i.e. NHS plan and National Service Frameworks
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of contemporary forensic issues.
  • Knowledge of risk assessment
  • Understanding of audit processes

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Highly developed leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Excellent team player and ability to facilitate partnership working.
  • Capable of leading and managing change.
  • Ability to manage under pressure
