Job overview

This is an exciting time to join the Children and Young People's Directorate and be part of our existing and new leadership team. We are seeking to appoint an exceptional Clinical Manager for our Child Development Unit and Paediatric Outpatient Department at CHFT.

The successful applicant will need to aspire to be an inspirational leader who can nurture, motivate and develop a team and also have a passion to deliver excellence in all aspects of nursing care. A kind, compassionate and caring manner in supporting our patients and their families and our dedicated team of staff is vital to this role. A large aspect of the role is around leading a nursing team alongside working closely with the lead for the SEND agenda within the trust and ensuring robust quality and governance assurance processes are in place and effective. Experience of being involved in and delivering this is essential.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide leadership for a diverse team across three different sites within the Trust. Alongside being responsible for the day to day running of the Paediatric Outpatients service the post holder will also promote excellence in care in the Child Development Unit, acting as a resource and having the ability to give expert advice to Children and Young People and their families with complex health needs.

They will work closely with other clinical nurse managers, doctors, and the directorate leadership team to provide an excellent service for patients and their families. You will be a pivotal link in providing assurance to the wider divisional team.

A good understanding of trust policy and HR processes is crucial, alongside clinical governance, risk management and patient safety.

The successful candidate will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be resilient, creative, innovative and flexible. The ability to always illustrate a compassionate approach to children, young people and their families.

They will also need to be committed, focused, organised and adaptable to the changing needs of the service and also the wider organisation.

Working for our organisation

The Trust is currently undergoing a period of reconfiguration to enhance the service we provide for our patients, opening up an exciting opportunity to join us in making transformational change and focus on developing and enhancing our patient pathways to meet the care needs for our patients and their families. You will work closely with the Clinical Leads of all departments within the CYP Directorate to develop seamless care pathways for our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Clinical Manager will use leadership, knowledge and skill to promote excellence in children's nursing care delivery. The post holder will work collaboratively with the other clinical managers to promote a culture of safety, learning from experience, and promote best practice.

The role will support nurses to realise their full potential as children's nurses, always placing children and their families at the centre of care.

The post holder will work closely with the Matron, Lead Nurse, General Manager, and senior paediatric medical team to support children's care delivery and be responsive to children, their families and staff needs.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration and revalidation evidence
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification in Nursing
  • Mentorship and Preceptorship or equivalent
  • Leadership/ Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Conflict resolution
  • Digital/ computer skills

Desirable criteria

  • PGCE or willingness to undertake
  • Coaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • CHFT Recruitment and Selection Values based training

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE

Essential criteria

  • Ability to demonstrate working with children and young people in both the hospital and community setting, leading on elements of service provision and supporting staff in the clinical environment.
  • Significant or recent experience of working with children and young people (CYP) with a focus on CYP with complex health needs/long term or life-threatening conditions
  • Demonstrate experience involved in staff management, including aspects of managing sickness, absence and attendance, appraisals and duty rosters
  • Budget Management experience
  • Recent experience in transforming services, innovation and quality improvement
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

The Trust will administer the DBS check on your behalf and will recover the cost (Enhanced £42.90, Standard £22.90 or Basic £22.90) from your salary when you commence in post (including Internal staff). You will also be required to participate in the DBS Update Service and pay the £13 cost per year. This is a condition of your employment.
