Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered health professional to work along with the Chief Clinical Information Officer, Deputy Chief Clinical Information Officer (DCCIO), Chief Information officer (CIO) and the Digital Transformation Team to develop and manage the Clinical safety Officer function across the Trust. In addition, the postholder will contribute to the implementation of the Digital enabling plan, digital transformation, and the implementation of the Trust Strategy.

The successful candidate will join the Digital Health and Education Team at a critical time in its development and be a key player in realising the Trust's digital vision to deliver high quality and safe care. We are looking for a proactive and positive leader who is patient and safety focused, experienced in digital delivery of healthcare and an advocate for a digitally enabled workplace.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the DCCIO, the main component of this role is to undertake the role of Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) for a range of digital systems throughout their lifecycle, from implementation to eventual de-commissioning.

The role requires knowledge of patient care, informatics, technology and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients to promote safe, effective and efficient use of digital health solutions in clinical settings with the ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes.

The postholder will act as a point of expertise and support for staff, providing a link between clinical and digital colleagues, building on relationships with IG and Medical devices teams. No specific technical skills or background are required - the emphasis of the desired skillset will be on Clinical safety implementation, engagement and transformation skills.

To undertake training as a Clinical Safety Officer as pertains to digital transformation IT Clinical Risk Management obtaining and maintaining an in depth working knowledge of DCB0129, 0160 and all other related legislation pertinent to Clinical safety.

To undertake clinical safety activities, including but not limited to:

  • Identifying potential risk and linking into the Trust risk management process
  • Facilitating hazard workshops
  • Writing Clinical safety case reports
  • Overseeing system and medical device implementations
  • Overseeing systems as part of BAU
  • Reviewing and updating hazard logs
  • Escalating issues appropriately and in a timely manner

To lead on specific pan-organisation digital transformation projects from a clinical perspective

To actively seek out and promote a co-production approach with patients and staff regarding digital transformation

To work collaboratively and constructively with other digital staff in undertaking digital transformation

To provide ad hoc expert clinical advice to other staff in the digital directorate

To work collaboratively and constructively as part of the trusts Health Informatics Team

To attend regular Health Informatics Team meetings

To undertake relevant CPD activities

To develop close partnerships/working relationships with the Trusts Clinical Triumvirates, Clinical digital leads and wider stakeholders

To ensure that any significant digital service transformation includes input from Clinical Safety Officer team at the earliest stages.

To take responsibility for being the clinical lead within Health informatics for allocated digital transformation projects

To ensure that robust processes are in place to engage with staff and to ensure that good two-way communication occurs

To seek out and to highlight opportunities for meaningful digital transformation in collaboration with the Digital Health Clinical lead and Innovation teams

To be an active champion of meaningful digital transformation in the trust, and beyond

To contribute to the strategic direction of the trust working to the digital enabling plan

To keep updated with new developments in the digital health arena

To deputise for the CCIO / DCCIO as appropriate

  • Hold registration as a health professional (NMC, HCPC, GMC)
  • Holds, or is working towards, the Clinical Risk Management Certificate
  • Evidence of post-qualifying, and ongoing commitment to, Continuing Professional Development

Desirable

  • Educated to Masters/post-registration qualification or equivalent experience working in a senior role

  • Highly developed specialist clinical knowledge of function
