Fleet Mortgages is a major player in the specialist Buy to Let Mortgage market and we are currently expanding our Credit Risk team and looking for a brand new role to join us!

The main purpose of the role

You will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining robust credit policies for Fleet Mortgages lending operations. This role is critical to ensuring the Company's mortgage lending practices are aligned with regulatory requirements, risk management strategies and business objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust credit policies, in line with Company objectives.
  • Evaluate credit risk audit outcomes, both internal and external, to identify trends, and implement optimal strategies and solutions to mitigate potential risks for the department.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships between all internal stakeholders and investigate all referrals in a professional manner. (Underwriting and Sales)
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to maintain a consistent approach aligned with credit policy.
  • Manually assess complex BTL cases and make confident lending decisions that benefit both the business and its clients, while staying within credit risk guidelines.
  • Prepare management reports along with additional supporting evidence when proposing new criteria changes to Fleets' Credit Committee.
  • Assess and recommend exceptions to policy to Fleet's parent company, Starling Bank, ensuring a strong substantiated rationale.
  • Stay updated on market developments, competitor changes, regulatory changes, and industry best practices in credit risk management.

Experience we are looking for

  • Minimum 5 years mandated mortgage underwriting experience.
  • Proven experience in credit risk management roles within the financial services industry or related sectors.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to look broadly to understand and draw conclusions from situations logically and systematically.
  • Proven ability to exercise good commercial and professional judgment.
  • Strength of character to stand by decisions.
  • Adaptive to ongoing change.
  • Enthusiastic, flexible, and keen to continuously develop.
