Client engagement manager - international
Based in Edinburgh. Our hybrid working approach allows the opportunity to combine working from home as well as in our offices.

Senior client engagement manager

JOB PURPOSE

A key member of the client engagement team, the international client engagement manager role will play a key role in delivering the firm's business development and client engagement activity, specifically to support the delivery of the firm's international strategy. The role will also have responsibility for supporting the delivery of the international strategy for Brodies Middle East LLP.
The successful candidate will combine a strong understanding of the broad legal market with a drive to understand our clients and deliver integrated solutions. The role holder will work closely with lawyers across the firm and other business development professionals in the Business Development and Marketing practice area.

CORE TASKS

  • Collaboration with international champions - work closely with the head of international and the wider group of internal international champions to support the delivery of our international business development and marketing objectives.
  • International networks - maximise the opportunities from international network memberships (IBA, ABA, TerraLex, ELA and AIJA) by overseeing/coordinating colleague representation at key international events and conferences, tracking outbound and inbound referrals and ensuring visibility across relevant network channels and platforms.
  • Referral firm targeting programme - continuous review of current sources of international related instructions and lead in the introduction of a referral targeting programme to track, monitor and report on reciprocal referrals.
  • Project Liberty - take a lead role in this project to identify target US firms to develop our relationship with and identify opportunities for further work. Coordinate meetings with key contacts (team to team, introduction meetings etc) and ensure actions, opportunities are delivered, and results shared across the firm.
  • Enhance global brand recognition - deliver strategy to position Brodies as a UK firm with international reach, known for delivering high-quality legal services across multiple jurisdictions. Develop and maintain a suite of international related material (internal and external) to support the international strategy.
  • Thought leadership - develop and launch an 'International Club' (to include a programme of virtual roundtable think-tank sessions to discuss topical issues). Creation and delivery of a content plan to promote our international expertise.
  • Cross-selling opportunities - map current international clients to identify opportunities to cross-selling our services to new and existing international targets.
  • Other international projects - support delivery of other international related projects
  • Reporting - develop and deliver robust and effective processes for tracking and reporting international activity, using new and existing tech.
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) - create and deliver a SEO strategy for international content (keyword research, content optimisation and analytics reporting).
  • Internal communications - support in the delivery of creative approaches to inform and engage colleagues about Brodies' international strategy.
  • Brodies Middle East
  • Develop the Middle East proposition by gaining further understanding of the market and assist with securing key targets.
  • Account management of key clients and identify opportunities to gain further instructions including client listening.
  • Preparation of bespoke credential materials and support to the bid team on new opportunities.
  • Lead BD support to colleagues working in the ME including secondees.
  • Management of content including blogs, website & ME LinkedIn showcase page
  • Management of BD budget and reporting monthly on activities for the ME operational board.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • This is an attractive opportunity for a recent graduate with at least 5 years business development and marketing experience, looking for a new challenge to build on their existing knowledge. In addition to proven experience in the above areas of responsibility, we seek:
  • Enthusiasm to develop an in-depth understanding of the legal market in the UK and across Europe (in terms of the market, significant cases, the key players, the competition, and the actual financial/commercial structures and approaches involved in this area).
  • Strong understanding of marketing and communications and how to apply that to the day to day
  • High attention to detail and strong client (commercial) focus.
  • Politically astute - can make tough decisions and follow through; anticipates future areas of risk for the firm and takes appropriate action to address these.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and inspire both team and lawyers to deliver business goals and change behaviour where required. Draws on experience to manage change.
  • Ability to work to deadlines, juggle multiple projects and deliver under pressure. Ability to plan ahead, anticipate workload manage time efficiently, balances conflicting priorities and does not over-commit team and themselves - always manages expectations.

SKILLS

  • Experience in selling concepts and presenting up to Board Level.
  • Proven track record of achieving strategic business objectives and using this experience to assess people and financial resources required for specific projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills - with partners, key associates, and business development colleagues, clients and suppliers.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and oral.
