Wren's Nest Primary School is based in the heart of the Black Country in Central Dudley. It is a successful school with a growing pupil roll of 550 pupils. We are a dynamic and exciting school with a passion for making a difference and improving outcomes and achievement for every child.

We are looking for a Class Mentor who has what it takes to truly make a difference to children. The purpose of this job is to support the development of personal and social skills of children throughout the lunchtime and in class.

To become part of our team as a Class Mentor will need to:

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be willing to share your classroom practice with others.
  • Be highly organised and motivated.
  • Good understanding of child development and learning processes.
  • Demonstrate the vision and values of the school in everyday work and practice.
  • To support and develop pupils' personal and social skills and enable a calm and appropriate learning environment to be sustained throughout the school day, incorporating the opportunities provided by the lunch break.

Each week the core hours of work will be:

3 days: 1 ½ hours, covering lunchtime and the session after lunch

2 day per week: 3 ½ hours, covering lunchtime and the full afternoon session in school.

Main Purpose of the Job:

To support and develop children's personal and social skills and enable a calm and appropriate learning environment to be sustained throughout the school day, incorporating the opportunities provided by the lunch break.

Class Mentors work with one class to support the development of personal and social skills of children throughout the lunchtime and beyond. The class mentor will support children to be successful in developing their skills during lunchtime and provide support and discussion with children who have had difficulties following the lunchtime session as appropriate.

After lunch, following individual support for children, the Class mentor will work within the classroom for the remainder of the 40minutes daily working time. In addition one afternoon every week the Class Mentor will work within the classroom supporting the children in a range of ways as discussed and organised by the class teacher. The Class Mentors will report to the Lunchtime Senior Mentor during the lunchtime period and to Class Teachers for other aspects of their role.
