Join us at Better Cotton as Claims Integrity Manager for the world's largest cotton sustainability initiative - we support the implementation of more sustainable farming practices and farm livelihoods through our voluntary standard for nearly 3 million farmers in the Better Cotton network in 23 countries around the world.
The Challenge
Looking ahead to 2030, we have ambitious 2020 targets which seek to reduce GHG emissions from cotton production, decrease synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women's empowerment among farmers and farm workers.
To do so, we also need to drive demand for our cotton produced by farmers that adhere to our farm-level standard, the Principles & Criteria. An integral component of the Better Cotton Standard System, our Claims Framework and accompanying guidance is the tool that members, certified organisations and relevant stakeholders use to communicate and report on their involvement with the Better Cotton Standard System.
As the Claims Integrity Manager, you will join our Claims team, which is part of the broader Standards System Integrity function. You will be responsible for implementing and managing a robust approach to Claims Management and Integrity for the overall Standard System, with a direct reporting line to the Claims team lead.
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for aligning with the ISEAL Code of Practice, relevant ISO standards, and applicable regulatory requirements to further develop and manage Better Cotton's Claims Management System and Claims Monitoring & Enforcement Strategy. This includes work with members, certified organisations, and third parties.
Claims Monitoring & Enforcement
- Refine and implement the Claims Monitoring Framework for B2B and B2C claims and labels.
- Oversee claims monitoring through Certification Bodies and integrate tools for misuse detection.
- Conduct risk analysis and advise management on mitigation strategies.
- Enforce compliance, including managing misuse cases, sanctions, and change notifications.
- Develop mechanisms for handling claims-related complaints and queries.
- Benchmark and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.
Claims Management System
- Manage a small team reviewing and approving claims and licensing product labels/logos.
- Evolve systems to capture feedback and improve data collection for reporting, risk, and KPIs.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to improve platform data integration.
Stakeholder Management
- Maintain relationships with Certification Bodies, retailers, brands, and regulatory bodies.
- Handle safeguarding complaints and regulatory information requests.
- Engage with standard setters, NGOs, and industry groups to ensure alignment and credibility.
Line Management
- Line manage 2 direct reports and support other tasks as agreed with your line manager.
We are looking for someone who has
the following skills, knowledge, and experience:
Essential:
- Experience with certification schemes, Certification Bodies, compliance, claims monitoring and integrity and establishing effective guidance, requirements and monitoring controls. Preferably in the textile industry.
- Foundational understanding of sustainability claims, policy and regulatory requirements for the same and an understanding of legal, regulatory ex Green Guides requirements and market needs for certification schemes and related claims.
- Proven understanding and/or experience with managing large projects and workstreams.
- Effective communication skills and strong multi-stakeholder management and coordination skills: Ability to facilitate alignment and consensus among diverse opinions and stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills: Capable of coordinating complex projects and managing deadlines and competing priorities effectively.
- Analytical skills combined with holistic thinking: Ability to design pragmatic solutions while considering the big picture.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities: Proficient in both internal and external messaging in English, capable of drafting documents and communication pieces targeted at different audiences.
- Experience working in multicultural and international settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficiency with CRM, particularly in Salesforce.
Desirable:
- Understanding of organisational communications and branding.
- Knowledge of and experience with sustainability challenges and opportunities in the cotton supply chain or any other agricultural commodity: From farm to consumer.
- Higher university degree in a relevant field.
- Experience and/or interest in standard setting and revision procedures: Including ISEAL processes and requirements.

Working arrangements
The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and will be based either in London. Better Cotton offers flexible working, with core hours being 10 am - 4 pm. The position will require limited travel up to a maximum of 5% per annum.
