We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Healthcare Assistant to join the Paediatric team in ED within the larger ED community.

This is a new position and we are really looking forward to welcoming suitable candidates to this role.

As we know you will appreciate - our ED is always open - providing care for children 24 hour a day, 365 days a year. This means we need great team members who are flexible to ensure that all our patients and their families receive the best care and support possible. It will involve working 7am - 7.30pm and nights 7.30 pm - 07.30 am on a shift work basis.

Working in our ED is such a valued and critical role for us so we are looking for people who really and genuinely want to make a difference to the patients we support and of course their families

Main duties of the job

Our patients aren't in our ED for a long time, but we give them all we have to ensure that they receive the best possible love and care whilst they are. Your previous care experience will be what sets you apart from the rest and will have given you all the skills you need to build upon in this role.

You will be responsible for providing a range of personalised care for patients and families and a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the team leader/nurse in charge.

You will support the productive operation of the ward environment by undertaking a range of non -clinical activities which contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

Acting at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust values, you will work as part of the ward team to ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide good quality personalised care in accordance with agreed local and national standards
  • Take samples from patients for testing or dispatching eg: Urine, sputum, faeces, MRSA swabs, blood sugars
  • Assist patients to meet nutritional needs in line with their individual care plan.
  • Undertake clinical duties relevant to clinical area following achievement of competencies
  • Assist to maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
  • Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals
  • Contribute to maintaining safe, clean, and productive care environment, compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Maintain and develop own competence
  • Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • oGCSE Maths & English grade C or above OR level 2 numeracy skills and level 2 literacy skills
  • oLevel 3 QCF diploma (Qualification Credit Framework) in healthcare / NVQ level 3

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • oPrevious experience of working in an acute health care or related setting
  • oUnderstanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
  • oUnderstanding of concept and application of confidentiality

Desirable

  • oEvidence of working as a band 2 HCA
