The Role
ALS in Ely are looking for their next ambitious Laboratory Manager. In this role, you'll lead a skilled team to deliver high-quality, timely sample analysis while ensuring adherence to quality standards and client expectations. You'll oversee staff management, training, resource allocation, and compliance with health, safety, and accreditation protocols.

Hours Per Week: 40
Days Per Week: Monday to Friday
Contract: Full Time & Permanent
The day to day
- Manage the laboratory team to ensure high-quality, timely sample analysis by trained staff.
- Support General and Technical Managers with client communication, method development, and validation.
- Oversee laboratory staffing, including rotas, recruitment, inductions, holidays, and absence management.
- Review and approve results, certificates, and ensure adherence to Quality Management protocols.
- Provide resources, technical training, and maintain training records for all laboratory staff.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies, COSHH, and risk assessments, including PPE use.
- Participate in audits, monitor KPIs, and improve laboratory efficiency by leveraging best practices.
The Essentials
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and work independently.
- Effective team leader, capable of inspiring, motivating, and building relationships to achieve results.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, with strong analytical, numerical, and presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Commercially aware, client-focused, and experienced in operations or client-facing management roles.
- Flexible, tenacious, and committed to achieving continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical, GMP, or contract laboratory environments is preferred.
