Job summary

  • The Capital Planning and Development Team is a multidisciplinary professional team forming an integral part of theTrust's Estates & Facilities Directorate.
  • Reporting to the Head of Capital Planning & Development,the Capital Programme Manager will be responsible for a widerange of projects improving service user, clinical and staffenvironments and also implement our estates strategydesigned to rationalise and improve the sites from which wedeliver services.
  • The post holder will be accountable for all Capital projectswithin the Estates and Facilities portfolio and will manage inhouse resources, external Consultants and Contractors in thesuccessful delivery of these projects in accordance withagreed programmes and budget parameters.
  • The post holder will ensure that all designated projects meetbenefit criteria and objectives (generally set out within theBusiness Case) as well as fit with the Trust Estates Strategy.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, motivated leader to join Capital Planning & Development as a Capital Programme Manager within the Capital Projects Team.

Over recent years the Capital Planning & Development Team have successfully delivered a range of capital schemes which include, the provision of a new Infusion Centre on the campus, the provision of new ward blocks, the provision of new operating theatres, the refurbishment of the theatre department to provide additional theatre capacity, ward refurbishments and scanner replacements to name but a few.

Your role within the team will be to provide line management leadership to the Capital Projects Team and act as the first point of contact for project escalation across the capital programme. You will lead on allocated projects in your own right which have a starting threshold of £50k and can range above £5m.

You will be experienced in managing people and teams, and have excellent communication and motivation skills. You will be experienced in managing consultants and contractors, and understand and can implement the capital project process from inception to completion. You will be able to coordinate design programmes and tender processes for their own schemes, and can guide and educate team members through these processes for their schemes.

  • A BSc or BA degree with demonstrable extensive Senior Management Experience in a similar organisation.
  • Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2 or equivalent)

Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Membership of a professional institution such as RICS, RIBA, CIBSE, CIOB.
  • Record of Continued Professional Development

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of five year's management and practical experience in project management of delivering highly complex building projects across large complex sites within an acute hospital healthcare environment
  • Minimum of five year's experience of managing contractors, consultant teams and direct labour staff
  • Demonstrable experience in the commissioning of new Health Service facilities in an NHS environment including design, specification, project management and contract administration, contractors and consultants teams
  • Managing multi-disciplinary relationships with stakeholders in a relevant organisational setting

Desirable

  • Understanding of healthcare planning and standards
  • Experience working in 'Acute Hospital' environment
  • Experience as Project Lead
