We have a vacancy within our well established improvement team for a Cancer Improvement Manager.

Cancer is one of NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board's key priorities.

  • Working as a member of the Cancer Team, you'll be working in partnership with stakeholders across our Lincolnshire Integrated Care System to deliver our programme of work to increase the number of patients being diagnosed with cancer earlier, reducing health inequalities and working with Primary Care & Secondary Care to streamline cancer pathways, supporting our aims to diagnose three-quarters of all cancers at an early stage.Improving outcomes for those patients living in Lincolnshire.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivering a Programme of work to support our overall plan, leading a number of multi-agency project teams, developing plans and reporting on progress. Projects fall into one or more of the following areas:

  • Working closely with a team of multi disciplinary Secondary Care colleagues to develop new and improved pathways to ensure the right patient is seen at the right time by the right person.
  • Implementing national recommended Best Practice Timed Pathways.
  • Increasing the number of patients diagnosed with cancer at an earlier stage through new initiatives and education.
  • Reducing health inequalities for patients accessing cancer services across Lincolnshire
  • Working in collaboration Primary Care to improve patient flow between primary and secondary care.

You'll be educated to degree level or an equivalent qualification or level of experience. You'll have experience of managing projects in complex and challenging environments or a thorough understanding of the NHS, as a confident communicator you will be able to establish relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Candidates must either have strong Project Management experience or a good working knowledge of the NHS with a desire to learn on the job assimilate information quickly.

Working closely with the Cancer Programme Team, the successful applicant will report regularly to Cancer Board and Cancer Delivery & Recovery meetings. Attending 2 weekly meetings attended by the stakeholders to report on strategic development and operational improvements.

The Cancer Improvement Manager will work at both Strategic and Operational level to develop and implement robust procedures/ processes and pathways to ensure patients optimally access cancer services and transition seamlessly.

The post holder will deliver the following:-

  • Transformational change, quality improvements and value using effective and sustainable approaches, work across Trust and geographical boundaries to deliver the improvement
  • The ability to work at a senior level in cross cutting multi organisational setting to involve complex negotiation and influence with senior managers/ directors, clinicians facilitating organisational, cultural change and delivery of outcomes.
  • The Cancer Improvement Manager will work at both Strategic and Operational level to develop and implement highly complex and robust procedures/ processes and pathways to ensure patients optimally access cancer services and transition seamlessly. This includes leadership and effective change management including behaviour change through pathway, policy redesign and individual / team development.

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a commensurate band/level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Previous Experience

  • Significant experience of managing projects and leading change projects and delivering them within agreed timescales and budgets
  • Experience in managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests
  • Proven experience and ability to prioritise own work effectively and managing competing demands.
  • Proven track record in working with health and social care providers in designing, developing and delivering interventions that utilise information and the evidence base

Desirable

  • Comprehensive experience of project principles techniques and tools such as Prince 2 and Managing Successful Projects.

Knowledge

  • Appreciation of evidence and thinking relating to practices which identify and reduce health inequality and improve patient outcomes and experience.
  • Understanding of cancer
