The role

We are looking for a Camera Operator to join our team at Representing Border, based at the Scottish Parliament.

You will provide first class camera and programme-gathering skills, covering all aspects of our output. You will work with our skilled team providing technical, craft and operational skills as needed for production. You will be provided with the necessary camera and additional equipment to support your role.

You'll work on our current affairs programme Representing Border. The role involves shooting high quality pre-planned interviews with senior politicians, interviewing individuals and panels and quick-turnaround reaction to breaking stories in the busy environment of the Scottish Parliament.

On occasion, there will also be a requirement to crew live broadcasts into the Lookaround and Tyne Tees news programmes using a LiveU and dealing with gallery talkback as appropriate.

You will have a passion for politics, particularly in a creative and operational capacity, and will want to offer ideas on how to cover a story as well as what stories we should be covering. The successful candidate should also have a keen eye for reflecting the diverse nature of the communities in the region we serve.

You will be a highly motivated individual as well as friendly, flexible and approachable. You will share the responsibility in supporting programme production by having the willingness and aptitude to bring an excellent skill level to all tasks. Above all, you will be an excellent communicator who is quick thinking and calm under pressure, able to digest and react to information efficiently. You'll also be a great representative of ITV in public.

It is important, as well as the ability to provide a high standard of camerawork, to be able to maintain and troubleshoot, with appropriate training, any issues arising with your designated kit as well as the camera equipment used by the reporters in the team.

Your rostered hours will generally be Monday to Thursday, though on occasions you may be expected to work Fridays, evenings and weekends. You can expect to travel to locations around Edinburgh as appropriate, as well as filming within the Scottish Parliament building. Pre-filming on Mondays takes place in the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway.

Due to the weight of the equipment needed in this role, the successful candidate will be asked to identify any pre-existing medical conditions that may be exacerbated by carrying a camera and kit.

The role requires you to have a full driving license and use of your own vehicle for work purposes.

Please write a letter of application explaining your camera experience, why you want to work for our Representing Border programme and what you will bring to our team.

Please Provide a link to a showreel showing a range of examples of your camera work.
