This position is open to current Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) staff only.

A permanent On-Call Crew Manager vacancy has become available at the Newmarket Station.

This role is conditioned to the On-Call duty system and will be filled based on eligibility and performance.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service are looking to fill this vacancy with a motivated and committed individual who can demonstrate strong organisational values in line with SCC and SFRS.

How to apply

Step 2: Complete the Supporting Statement template by answering the following questions below. These can be taken from all aspects of your work and life experience and are not limited to work within SFRS (no more than 250 words per question):

In your statement, please state your current PDR placement and explain how you are eligible to apply for this position.

  • Question 1: Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service expect its leaders to consistently demonstrate the behaviours and values set out in the NFCC Core Code of Ethics and the WeASPIRE framework. Describe a time within your role at Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service where you have demonstrated values-based leadership. Explain how you acted with integrity, promoted dignity and respect, and put people first, particularly when faced with challenge, pressure, or competing priorities.
  • Question 2: As a Crew Manager in Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, you will be required to manage people fairly, consistently, and in line with Service policies and procedures. Provide an example of how you have managed performance, conduct, attendance, or wellbeing within your team. This may include dealing with underperformance, supporting someone through a difficult period, or addressing behaviours that did not align with Service expectations.
  • Question 3: Crew Managers within Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service must demonstrate sound operational knowledge and the ability to make safe, effective decisions that protect staff and the communities we serve. Describe an operational incident or training scenario where you contributed to, or led, operational decision-making. Explain how you assessed risk, communicated effectively, and ensured the safety and welfare of personnel.
  • Question 4: Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is committed to developing its people and creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment. Provide an example of how you have supported the development of others within SFRS. This could include coaching, mentoring, instructing, supporting probationers, addressing skills gaps, or preparing individuals for future roles.
