Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Band 8a Vascular Business Manager to join our newly formed leadership team. This pivotal role involves working collaboratively with hospitals in our sector to redevelop pathways for our patients, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. You will be working with a wide range of disciplines such as vascular scientists, the consultant body, and management colleagues. The role also encompasses the management of elective and non-elective flow, as well as supporting bed capacity.

Main duties of the job

  • Pathway Development: Work with hospitals within the sector to redevelop and optimise patient pathways, enhancing the quality and efficiency of vascular services.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Financial Management: Oversee budgets, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and evaluate service performance, implementing improvements where necessary.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clinical staff, hospital administrators, and external partners.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership and support to the vascular team, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Flow Management: Oversee the management of elective and non-elective flow to ensure smooth and efficient patient transitions.
  • Bed Capacity Support: Assist in managing bed capacity to optimise patient care and service delivery.

Essential criteria

  • Relevant first degree
  • Completion of project management skills course, e.g. PRINCE2
  • Recognised management qualification at postgraduate level and/or experience

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification

Experience

  • Experience of operational and staff management in the NHS
  • Track record of success in delivering change and project management
  • Experience of managing and deciding on complex employment issues including handling grievances and disciplinary issues
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience of cost reduction delivery

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

  • Well-developed business planning and marketing skills
  • Ability to analyse and effectively present performance data and identify areas for improvement
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management skills
  • Ability to co-ordinate and investigate complaints, including experience of dealing with distressed patients / relatives / staff
  • Knowledge of NHS contracting process
