The Role

London South East College is seeking an inspiring and experienced Curriculum Manager for Electrical Studies to lead our Electrical Curriculum and Apprenticeship programs. This position is ideal for an individual with a solid background in Electrical Installations and a strong understanding of Teaching, Learning, and Assessment. The successful candidate will bring both practical and managerial expertise, with occupational competence in at least one of the programs they will oversee.
Key Skills and Experience

1. Technical Expertise in Electrical Installations

  • Qualifications: Minimum Level 3 in Electrical Installations (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent), with higher qualifications like HNC, HND, or a degree in Electrical Engineering being advantageous.
  • Industry Experience: Demonstrated hands-on experience in electrical installation or as a qualified electrician.
  • Current Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) and other relevant industry standards is essential.

2. Teaching and Curriculum Development

  • Teaching Qualification: Candidates should hold a recognized teaching qualification, such as PGCE, Cert Ed, or Level 5 DET.
  • Assessment and Verification: Qualifications in assessing and verifying, such as TAQA or A1/V1 Assessor and Verifier Awards, are required.
  • Curriculum Design Experience: Strong background in developing curriculum plans, schemes of work, and lesson plans that reflect both industry standards and student needs.

3. Leadership and Management

  • Team Management: Experience in managing or mentoring teaching and support staff, with an emphasis on professional development and consistent delivery standards.
  • Resource Management: Ability to manage budgets, allocate resources, and oversee workshop facilities to support effective curriculum delivery.
  • Strategic Planning: Demonstrated ability in setting educational goals, improving student outcomes, and ensuring curriculum alignment with both educational and industry standards.

4. Sector Knowledge and Compliance

  • FE Sector Knowledge: A solid understanding of the FE sector's regulatory and compliance standards, including Ofsted inspection requirements, safeguarding, and health and safety in workshops.
  • Funding and Qualification Frameworks: Knowledge of frameworks like NVQs, BTECs, Apprenticeships, and an understanding of FE funding mechanisms to support curriculum planning and delivery.

5. Key Soft Skills

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills to engage with staff, students, and external partners, and the ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Agile problem-solving and adaptability in response to new policies, regulations, or changing student needs.
  • Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational skills to effectively manage the balance between administrative and academic responsibilities.
