Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join West London Children's Healthcare on a fixed term basis for six months. We are an organisation created to transform care for children across north and west London and operate across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust.

The role in its core is operational and will assume responsibility for the day to day management of the children's hospital including medical and surgical services that are comprised of a range of tertiary and quaternary specialised services. We work closely with the ICB on a number of strategically critical work streams such as mental health and transitional services for children through the West London Children's Healthcare collaborative and this role would be critical on delivery of our ambitious plans.

Our services have made significant progress towards our ambitions over the past three years and we are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our high performance team.

The role is well suited for somebody looking to widen their experience across a number of specialities, working as part of an innovative, caring and supportive team looking to drive improvements in the quality and efficiency of care for the children who utilise our services.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide hands-on operational management to designated areas of the Directorate, ensuring the delivery of services in line with expected service standards
  • Be accountable through the Deputy General Manager for the monitoring and delivery of key quality, productivity and performance targets
  • On behalf of the Deputy General Manager, work closely with the Service Directors and Clinical Directors to assure up-to-date job plans and EWTD compliant working patterns for junior doctors, ensuring adequate medical staffing cover is in place to meet the clinical and operational needs of the service.

  • Degree level Qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of on-going development

Desirable criteria

  • Master's level qualification in a management related subject or working towards

Experience

  • Operational management experience
  • Experience of managing patient systems
  • Experience in managing a month end process
  • Experience in managing a month end process

Desirable criteria

  • NHS or wider healthcare environment experience

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Engagement skills with clinical teams to assure successful delivery of services
  • Knowledge of Health Service management, including issues affecting the delivery of clinical services within an acute teaching hospital
  • Ability to plan, manage and achieve business and personal objectives

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of workforce redesign
  • Knowledge of computer systems and information networks
  • Experience of process mapping and redesign of clinical pathways
